Trump shatters the Republican Party

No more.

Suddenly, there are three strands of the Republicanism, each entrenched and vying for supremacy in 2016. Ted Cruz is the leader of the traditional conservative purists. Marco Rubio is emerging from the mud of a multi-candidate brawl to lead the once-dominant, now diminished, mainstream lane of the GOP.

But it is Trump’s new alliance of angry populists that is ascendant — and on the precipice of dominance.

Except that giving all the dropout votes to Rubio still doesn’t give him anywhere close to enough to win. He might just barely edge out Cruz with those extra votes. And the theory assumes ALL those extra votes go to Rubio, and not to Trump or Cruz.

Read it again. "Everyone but Rubio." A two man race.

I don’t see that. Unless Cruz is satisfied with never running again, and I think he’s too ambitious/too young for that right now.

I’ve had suspicions along those lines. Trump meets with Sarah, then he meets with Ted, then he announces.

We’re pretty much on the same page. Good overview of the task and tools at hand.

The only thing worse than Donald Trump's LIES, Flipp-Flopping, "Brown-Shirt style" threats of physical violence against protestors ...

is the genuinely pathetic excuse-making by his followers, such as "USAFA92's".

This is HOW Rev. Jim Jones persuaded his followers to drink the poison cool-aide.

Donald Trump "starts" a lie about Ted Cruz leaving Nevada ... and his cult-fans LOVE it ...

Donald Trump deserves congratulations after winning NH, SC and NV. It's politics.

But sometimes, as in NFL-NBA sports, the "winners" turn out to be complete @ssholes.

If "anyone" at Free Republic publicly threatened to punch the lights out of a guy standing across the street (exercising his first amendment rights) ...

"We" would be arrested and have our @ss thrown in jail.

Not The Donald, or Hillary either (funny how they both LOVE Planned Parenthood).

Draw your own conclusions.

Maybe some animals are INDEED more equal than others ...

This site in the past has been a bastion of conservative thought and exchanges. A source for information and clarification of the news. Unfortunately, each time we near a presidential election, the atmosphere changes. This change does not seem to occur during the off year election cycle, but only during the presidential season.

Posters appear that snipe and criticize the conservative standard bearers. This criticism seems to be the strongest against those standard bears, who, in the past, have stood strong and opposed liberalism.

During the shared struggle against the oppressive, authoritarian Obama regime, posters here cheered the stands taken by Carson and Cruz. They also had massive problems with Rubio and the Gang of eight. Votes we cheered for in the past are raised as flaws. Accomplishments are denigrated. All Republicans are painted with the same brush.

Yes, moderate Republicans failed to stand with conservatives in their effort to stop the drive to destroy our Republic. Yes, we are all sorely disappointed, but is this a reason to eat our own. Is this a reason to start calling our allies names and deriding them for not being pure enough conservatives.

Are we seeing another version of Hope and Change. A media Circus that’s meant to sweep us along in it wake, causing us to overlook the true record of each nominee, and dwell on any flaw of the candidate, the Media has chosen to denigrate that week. We then see the Media promoting the candidacy of another candidate, only to then follow up with attacks later. It’s all a circus, and all aimed at tearing conservatives apart.

The name calling and blustering that is contained in many of the comments on this forum, is reaching an all time high. Calls of Liar, Liar and derogatory comments have become the norm. It has become open season for attacks on all the conservative standard bears.

Once the Republican nominee is chosen, will the Media then start slamming that nominee with hidden secrets, and insinuations that have been held in reserve?

Is this an effort, by those posting to alienate and divide conservative voters, and cause us to throw up our hands in disgust?

After all the attacks on those holding Christian values, will we again see them stay home?

After the primary season is over, and all the hoopla, will we be forced to acknowledge that the surviving nominee may not in reality be conservative?

Will we once again have to hold our noses and vote to avoid a socialist President, and the resulting permanent establishment of a Socialist leaning Judicial Branch?

Will our elected nominee be conservative enough to nominate a jurist who is a strict constructionist?

I fear that this time Republicans are projecting themselves and their beliefs on a candidate, who may or may not be true to his word, once elected.

I fear the angry tone will cause us to fragment when we finally have a nominee. I also believe there are those on this forum (new and old) who have that purpose as their goal. I also believe this same thing took place during the last two presidential election cycles.

Many stayed home because the candidate they had selected during the the primary withdrew or lost. They considered the nominee too moderate or liberal. We seem to stand strong during the interim congressional elections and elect Tea Party conservatives. But then, when nonconservative Republicans disappoint us, we demagogue not only those who disappointed us, but also our standard bearers.

I have a presidential preference and will vote for that choice in the primary, if he is still a candidate when I get to vote. I also know that whoever is the Republican nominee will receive my vote in the general election.

The alternative is a socialist dictatorship, with a leftist judiciary majority supporting the further destruction of our Republic.

My one hope is that if Trump is the eventual nominee, and elected, he will truly take conservative stands to restore our American Republic. I also hope he will call for a Convention of States, to pass amendments that will restore our American Republic.

The alternative is that our party will have swallowed the promise of Hope and Change, in a different guise, and we will once again be betrayed and disappointed.

Pray for our Republic. Call for a Convention of States, and Restore Our American Republic.

Rick Wilson said they needed to put a bullet in Trump?

Well, back in November Bill Bennett predicted that would happen, i.e., an assassination by either GOP or Dem.

Cruz sure knows how to pick ‘em, doesn’t he?

“the Party will die just like the Whigs.”

I already can hear the death rattle from the GOP. I envision many behind-closed-doors meetings in DC to come up with a strategy to save their precious do-nothing positions.

Fine. Cruz drops out, and half his votes go to Trump. Same basic problem.
(I voted Cruz, but would rather have Trump than Rubio.)

Trump is going to walk away with Florida.
Seriously, nobody has a clear path to beat him here

“I don’t see that. Unless Cruz is satisfied with never running again, and I think he’s too ambitious/too young for that right now.”

With two rats on SCOTUS who can retire, I think Cruz would be more than happy with a SCOTUS seat. The only issue I can see hurting a Cruz SCOTUS nomination is the establishment going against him.

Both Parties are being hit with a populist uprising!

The GOPe wants Hillary to win the nomination because they know she is one of them.
