Rick Tyler, the Senior Communications Advisor for Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), issued a public apology after spreading a false story reporting that Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) made a nasty comment to a Cruz staffer about the Bible.
"I want to apologize to Senator Marco Rubio for posting an inaccurate story about him here earlier today," Tyler wrote on Facebook after sharing the false story online. "The story misquoted a remark the Senator made to the staffer. I assumed wrongly that the story was correct."
The false report indicated that Rubio said that there were "not many answers" in the Bible -- when in fact, Rubio commented that "all the answers" were in the book of scripture.
Tyler indicated that he communicated with the Cruz staffer in the video, who explained that Rubio had made a "friendly and appropriate remark" about the Bible.
"Since the audio was unclear, I should not have assumed the story was correct," Tyler wrote. "I've deleted the post because I would not knowingly post a false story. But the fact remains that I did post it when I should have checked its accuracy first. I regret the mistake."

I’d rather consider a candidate who apologizes, than one that not only does NOT apologize( can we say Ben Carson “ child molester”), and neither needs to ask Forgiveness from God.
It’s dishonest on your part and a sucker bet. It’s like “Sign this contract and then I’ll tell you the interest rate”. FReepers aren’t that stupid.
>>What has happened to Cruz and his campaign?
Information Technology.
Jim - remember the 9/12 Tea Party in D.C. where somebody heard from somebody that there were X million plus people there?
IIRC that turned out to be a repeated tweet that had no factual substantiation - but it was broadcasted as fact over the PA to the crowd, who then repeated...
Same sort of dis/misinformation going on here here - except now the professional political parasites have figured out how to weaponize it.
I think the Cruze folks got suckered - and bad on them for not fact checking before repeating.
BUT - Who posted the original video with false subtitles? THAT is what folks should be wondering.
Even so, the Carson was a Cruz apology, but this wasn’t.
Trump did not use loans to finance his campaign, and then forget to disclose that fact.
Does it count if I take you up on your offer? :^)
Souled_Ou, Your tagline doesn’t match your name-calling posts. What’s in your heart?
I see you’re absorbing the personality of your messiah Trump, calling your political opponents “liars.” Nice. And maybe I’m not a US citizen, right?
BTW, dishonest liar is a bit redundant. You are not the arbiter of my integrity. You should have a little respect for the opinions and beliefs of others. You may need a safe space.
It was sloppy work, no question. Trump's team will have to be more diligent in confirming these news leads going forward. Cruz will soon be out and Trump and Rubio won't have the benefit of Cruz's dishonestly overshadowing their missteps.
True statement! I've been attacked more by long time FReepers than by noobs.
Ok, either Cruz is orchestrating these dirty tactics, which says something about his real character or his staff is out of control which is indicative of his poor leadership ability. So be honest. Why vote for him?
Cruz had nothing to do with the video other than a staffer tweeting it out and then deleting the tweet.
The video belongs to these people
==
Not referring to one dirty episode but the entirety of his politikin. If you’re branding yourself as the second coming of Jesus, you better live up to it.
No, regrettably. It has to be a diehard Cruz supporter.
So basically the upshoot of the story is that Rubio walks through a hotel lobby, sees Cruz’s dad and a staffer, walks up to them and says something nice, including something positive about the Bible one has on the table.
Then Cruz’s people run with an unbelievable story that says Rubio said something negative about the Bible.
Video shows it’s a lie.
Cruz apologizes.
But the real story got lost in it - Rubio shows the dignity to walk up to Cruz’s father and a staffer and say something nice. That’s a touch of class that seems missing in this race. Trump-bots can hate it, but it seems like a class move from Rubio.
It is getting pretty disheartening around here with personal attacks from Trump supporters. Conservatives do not call names and engage in Alinksy tactics.
You’d think they’d learn after the first time they were caught lying.
You are exactly right, I agree with you on this point.
Maybe if pastor Ted could pump the brakes on representing the face of Christ, we regular folks would not have to keep reminding him that he is a dishonest liar.
What a load of horse****. Show me Trumps mea culpa for that fake Coburn tweet and AFTER deleting the tweet, STILL repeating it at 2 events. Then we’ll talk.
Getting tired of this stuff by Trump supporters as well.
My offer is straightforward and honest. If I can indeed cite a premeditated, malicious and irrefutable lie from Cruz, you type and post the short, simple acknowledgement. If I can’t deliver, you will obviously mock and deride me mercilessly. What have you got to lose?
