Marco Rubio has awkward confrontation with Rafael Cruz, Cruz staffer in hotel lobby
The DP ^ | 2/20/16 | By Ellie Schroeder

Let's dispel the notion that Marco Rubio did not know who he was talking to. When Rubio walked into the lobby of the Columbia Hampton Inn this morning -- conveniently the same one where the Daily Pennsylvanian staffers are posting up in South Carolina and were eating breakfast around 10:30 a.m. -- he was presumably not expecting to run into Rafael Cruz, father of presidential candidate Ted Cruz, and Cruz campaign staffer Christian Collins.

However, once he saw them he decided to have some fun with them.

"Got a good book there," Rubio said to Collins, a young Cruz staffer in a suit, about the book he was reading over his cup of coffee.

"Not many answers in it, especially that one" Rubio added tersely and walked out of the lobby without a backward glance.

Collins was visibly taken aback after being addressed by his boss' political rival. Rafael Cruz and Collins proceeded to discuss under the incident in hushed voices for several minutes.

-snip-.

UPDATE: a Cruz staffer just confirmed that the book in question was a Bible.

I wasn’t referring to the jr journalist, but rather the poster you addressed.

“Trump will never get my vote.”

Luckily the voters kicked criz’s ass. I won’t have to ever vote the biggest liar, Cruz. I’d never vote for Cruz even the general. I’ll write in trump.

Yes, but TRUMP!!! being TRUMP!!! would probably assail Ted’s dad, demand to know WHY Cruz the Elder could support his son who is the “greatest liar TRUMP!!! has ever seen (must be no mirrors at TRUMP!!! House) and accuse the old fellow of having “blood coming from his whatever.” That is TRUMP!!! “Decency” and his way of life are quite different things.

The first word does not sound like “Not” and he adds “especially in that one”. Almost like he is discussing the particular version of the bible.

Here is the youtube.

Even at slow speed it can’t be made out what he is saying.

That version definitely sounds clearer. He may be saying “All the answer are in there.” It does not sound like he is saying “Not many answers in it”. This makes more sense.

Rubio: Got a good book there.

Staff “Yes sir”

Rubio: All the answers are in there.

Rubio: Especially in that one.

Oh yes, we hear that line every four years. I’m done holding my nose for the RINO candidate. I won’t skip voting, never have, but my vote will go to someone who I feel is the right person.

Gee.. I’m sure that I have no idea what you mean to say by that last sentence.

Could you explain it for the naive?

“Not many answers in it, especially that one.”

That sentence doesn’t make any sense if he is talking about one book - the Bible. “especially” that one’. Unless the guy was reading it, and Rubio could see which book of the Bible he was looking at - like Revelations maybe.

Or - perhaps that Cruz guy had asked a question out-loud and Rubio overheard - then an answer “especially” for that question.

I don’t know.

The look on the guy’s face says it was none of the things you suggested.

I captured the video and ran it in my video editor (Womble) a bunch of times at full screen mode, stepping the frames over and over again and I cannot get “all the answers” Before “answers” there are definitely (to my ears) at least three syllables.

1. OP says “Not many” and I find this plausible. Three syllables, right lip pattern.

2. Rubio version says “all the,” but that doesn’t fit. A syllable is missing, and the mouth formation is wrong.

3. “Maybe the” might work, but it would turn on whether the first syllable is a bilabial (two-lips for the “m” in “maybe”) or an alveolar (tongue to upper ridge for the “n” in “not”). Also, with “maybe” you get the “m” and “b” right on top of each other, so the bilabial would be sustained. I tried to see that, but it doesn’t look like that to me. At the moment the sound begins, his lips are open, not closed. This is the alveolar of the “n” in “not.” So I’m still thinking “not many.”

BTW, I have some fascination with this because when I was a young man I learned a little about ventriloquism. It was for fun with the church youth group. I was OK at it, but not to quit my day job for. :) In any event, one of the main things you have to study is how to create those lip closure sounds without actually closing the lips. I’d be interested in what a skilled lip reader had to say about this.

Peace,

SR

Read something besides the 5 books Catholicism added, and you wouldn't remain a Catholic. Bless you too.

As an Aerospace Mechanical Engineer, I "paint by the numbers" ...

The vote tally difference between Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio was 0.20 percent ... a minor difference ...

a "statistical tie" in the eyes of folks who work with numbers (such as engineers, navigators etc) ...

That being said, as a staunch Ted Cruz Florida campaigner, I'm nevertheless compelled to congratulate Rubio (whom I despise) for his mathematical second place South Carolina finish ...

All that being said, I'll also say that it's a "mathematical certainty" that Donald Trump ...

benefited by South Carolina's open primary where many (exact number unknown)

Code Pink, 9-11 Truther Lunatics, Abortion Mill Planned Parenthood supporters and Black Lives Matter "Community Organizers" voted for ...

The Donald.

And whether they openly admit it or not ...

EVERY Donald Trump supporter (with any intelligence) quietly knows that I speak "da truth" on this subject.

Nevertheless ... my "genuine" political battlefield congratulations to Donald Trump ...

for enlisting the Armies of Mordor to defeat "Reagan Conservatism" in South Carolina

As General George S. Patton, Jr. would opine ...

Victory is victory ...

=============================

Ted Cruz invested significant time (one year), money and organization in fighting to win South Carolina ...

I was personally invited to campaign there as a volunteer ...

Somehow, Ted Cruz came in third ... DEEPLY disappointing ... even though it's a statistical tie with Marco "Amnesty" Rubio ...

I would project tonight that Ted Cruz feels as badly as General Washington after one of his many Revolutionary War defeats ...

or as badly as General Eisenhower after the NAZIs kicked America's @ss at Kasserine Pass ...

Will Ted Cruz learn to effectively counter-punch to VICTORY like the U.S. Navy at the Battle of Midway ?

Ten Million still-fightin' and PRAYING Ted Cruz campaigners say "YES" !

Wonderfully ...ALL of America's Conservative Patriots have tasted VICTORY in South Carolina where the "unsinkable" U.S.S. Jeb Bush juggernaut ...

was SUNK with HEAVY ($ 100 million) losses ...
