“Texas is pronounced TeXas not Tehas. Both Nevada and Texas are U.S. states, not Mexican states.”

And in Texas the state tree is a pecan, pronounced with a short “e”. A Pee-can is what you put under the bed at night when you don’t have indoor plumbing.

Five years ago, I moved from upstate New York to a community in Texas called “Pecan Plantation.” Had to work to get the pronunciation right!

Maybe that delicious nut is called a puh-con in Guam, but I’ve lived in TX, Georgia and other places where it was called a pee-can, e.g. Peecan pie.
Buddies and I would knock them out of a tree with sticks at recess for snacks.
A `thunder-mug’ is what you put under the bed down in the basement tornado shelter.
Emergency pee-cans must be native to islands that might tip over and sink.
