Americans "have to be sensitive" to people who are working two jobs and barely making ends meet, Republican John Kasich said Thursday night at a CNN-hosted town hall.
He used the example of a single, working mother with a couple of children: "Think about that mother -- gets up early in the morning; gets the kids off to school; goes to work; comes home; makes dinner. They're the heroes. They're really -- these single women with children are the real heroes in America, in my opinion." [...]
"Well, the one thing we want to make sure is they have healthcare, right? And that's a critical part for the working poor. But look, it all gets down to training and skills. And one of the things that we have to recognize in this country today is we have to have life-long learning and we have to keep training ourselves for the jobs that exist today, and the jobs that exist tomorrow.
"But I've got to tell you, when you think about these working poor, especially if it's a woman, and her husband walked out on her and she's got a couple of kids, we've got to look at the child care. We've got to think about the child care tax credit. And we've got to get employers to begin to realize that, you know, give this person a chance. Give them a chance to be able to move up. Because if you get stuck, then it doesn't work." ...

Yes, we should make single mothers role models and build shrines to them.. good God
Lots of military wives who are widowed, alone with kids through no fault of their own, they need our help.
It's a disservice to lump all single mothers into the cesspool of some of the post.
we’ve got to get employers to begin to realize that...
What does that mean? Employers are supposed to pay single mothers more? Are they to promote single mothers over married mothers? I’ve never liked this guy.
Amen to that!
Yeah, let's encourage single motherhood.
It's for the children.
Murphy Brown, anyone?
However single parenthood is almost a surefire guarantee of poverty.
Around 49% of single mothers have never married, 51% are either divorced, separated or widowed. Half have one child, 30% have two.
Single mothers earn income that place them well below married mothers in the income ladder. The gap between the two groups is significantly large.
The median income for families led by a single mother in 2013 was about $26,000, one third (â ) the median for married couple families ($84,000).12 Nearly half with an annual income of less than $25,000.
Single mothers are more likely to be poor than married couples. The poverty rate for single-mother families in 2013 was 39.6%, nearly five times more than the rate (7.6%) for married-couple families.16 Single mothers are more likely to be poor than married couples. More than half (51.9%) live in extreme poverty with incomes below half of the federal poverty level17 â about $9,900 for a family of three. This translates into a weekly family budget of about $200.

This is the dimocrat demographic. They have no desire to improve this situation. In fact, dimocrat policies caused this and continue to encourage it by celebrating it.
They are the party of evil.
That’s 99% of the EBT crowd.
The assistant in the preK next to my room........exact scenario! She bragged about buying snacks for the Christmas party w/ her EBT card. And it didn’t shock me. How depressing is that?
I wouldn’t say single mothers are heroes ... but compared to a.w.o.l. fathers they are. All is relative.
I have a few relatives who are single moms. One is a successful person who had an accidental pregnancy in college and decided not to abort. She kept working, stayed in school and is now a nurse. She does well financially but her daughter (14) is rebellious and acts like a lesbian.
The other two did not fare so well and one is always complaining about the boyfriend who got her pregnant twice and left. She works full time and supports herself but just barely.
The other one doesn’t complain, but lives in public housing and is losing her daughter to the streets. She works part time and tries hard but never gets ahead.
I think in some respects the world in general lies to women and makes them think sex before marriage is a safe bet when in fact, if a pregnancy results, it’s usually a one-way ticket to poverty and anguish.
Everyone’s a hero. Soldiers, single moms, loudmouth college kids.
The left has for years. In the 50s, single mothers (with kids born out of wedlock, not widows) had to hide. Today it is pretty much celebrated. And we wonder why kids (especially boys) have issues.
I briefly saw the mother of one of the Columbine killers on the TV the other night - didn’t watch it, but noticed there was no father in sight. Was she a single mother - did the killer have a positive male role model at all?
How else can government “grow” their business, if they did not work so hard to instill division, among us?
Kasich, and most of those entrenched in “government service”, R or D, all detest honest, hardworking individuals who refuse to drink the purple kool-aid, and manage to juggle our own lives absent their corruption and control.
The absolute worst welfare fraudster I personally knew, was a former friend of mine, a divorced mother of two, who disdained actually working for wages, and managed to scam programs meant for poverty stricken, disabled people for a living. It added to her “income” from alimony and child support.
In her eyes, I was the fool for actually working, paying taxes, insurance etc... She managed to take several expensive vacations a year on cruise ships, and have her mortgage paid by MY taxes.
The other worst example of corruption, was the upper middle class married couple, who hired an illegal alien as a nanny/slave to care for their child. The female part of that married couple also called me stupid for paying more a week, than she did a month, for “childcare”.
I wish people would wake up, and stop believing the lies fed to them.
I wish the archives still had my review of George W. Bush’s visit to my little town in July 1999. I had him NAILED 18 months before he was sworn in.
He, too, started his address with praise of “our true heroes”, the “single moms”, and told us how much the government was going to do for them when he was President.

That is true for the most part. But ask any local police officer or municipal judge and they will tell you there is also a multitude of single mothers who are not raising there children as they should. Some of the mothers are alcoholics, druggies, have several children by different fathers - and this is not new. My law enforcement days were many years ago and I can tell you stories that will break your heart. It was a miracle any of the kids in the families I am thinking of, could become productive citizens - they were headed for a life of crime. I suspect the hoods in Ferguson and Chicago are mostly from single mother families.
He’s an idiot. I’ve heard three people whom I like to think use their common sense take time out today to say they like him. He struck some chord I guess
Stupid. How about tge divorced mom of PTSD combat vets who couldn’t take a handout for dignity’s sake going to work after getting an education and getting $400.00 per WEEK taken out of her paycheck. That’s $1600.00 per month to give to people who hate her for being, as Geraldo would put it, a gringo
Single mothers are heroes?
It was only yesterday Dan Quayle got flak for putting ‘em down.
Broken homes is what ails our society.
Yes. Children out of wedlock is high amongst whites too. About 50%. The issue is promiscuity. We live in a sex obsessed society now. Everywhere you look someone is telling a dirty joke, women dress like $2 hookers, and if you do get knocked up there is always the option of having your baby dismembered in your womb and sold. We as a nation have sunk to an all time low. We need to repent and truly believe the gospel to the saving of our souls.
My wife has a job in the public school system. It absolutely makes her crazy how many women with one complaint or another call her office proclaiming “I am a single mother!” as if it were a badge of honor.
