Americans "have to be sensitive" to people who are working two jobs and barely making ends meet, Republican John Kasich said Thursday night at a CNN-hosted town hall.
He used the example of a single, working mother with a couple of children: "Think about that mother -- gets up early in the morning; gets the kids off to school; goes to work; comes home; makes dinner. They're the heroes. They're really -- these single women with children are the real heroes in America, in my opinion." [...]
"Well, the one thing we want to make sure is they have healthcare, right? And that's a critical part for the working poor. But look, it all gets down to training and skills. And one of the things that we have to recognize in this country today is we have to have life-long learning and we have to keep training ourselves for the jobs that exist today, and the jobs that exist tomorrow.
"But I've got to tell you, when you think about these working poor, especially if it's a woman, and her husband walked out on her and she's got a couple of kids, we've got to look at the child care. We've got to think about the child care tax credit. And we've got to get employers to begin to realize that, you know, give this person a chance. Give them a chance to be able to move up. Because if you get stuck, then it doesn't work." ...

What? That doesn’t make sense. Hey, God bless single mothers. God bless married mothers. God bless mothers in general who care for their children rather than deny them life. God bless mothers who unselfishly give their children up for adoption in order to not deny them life.
Why single out single mothers? Weird.
Oh, and GOD BLESS FATHERS WHO STAND UP TO THE RESPONSIBLITY OF FATHERHOOD, TOO.
Married moms? No. Today it is heroic to be poor and make bad choices
I got a survey phone call today. One of the questions was, in a race for the nomination between Bush and Kasich, who would I vote for? There was no ‘none of the above’ and I was stumped. Finally, I said “Kasich,” and I don’t know a thing about him. What I do know is I wouldn’t vote for Bush!
Waiting for the new Reality Show, “Single MILF’s of Dayton”, hosted by the Mailman’s Son, Governor John Kasich.
Tune in to Bravo for Show Times.
A very small number do the right thing. Most fall into the the rat trap. The rats take advantage of this by enacting programs that make them comfortably dependent and they truly believe they are owed this.
Real heroes? Kasich is too dumb to know the meaning to that word.
Which word, “real” or “heroes”?
i.e. Edward James Olmos.
Those actually working and raising her kids have my respect.
Ah yes. The black community is sure filled with heroes.
Correction: SHEroes.
I always had a thing for the UPS guy ; )
Not if their plan was to be a single mother with children.
MAYBE the ones NOT on welfare.
Yes, it is tough for single women to responsibly raise children. Many single mothers use the Boy Scouts to help raise their children. It is not easy for organizations like the Boy Scouts to help to raise young men without fathers. First there is no father to help out. Second the logistics of getting the youngsters to/from home to participate and attend meetings. Third there is a shortage of money for equipment, clothes, and camp expenses that the troops make up. Not only that, but troubled families result in troubled youngsters, and the attendant extra attention by the scouts and their leaders.
What is being done to understand why there are so many single mothers? What happened or is happening to cause this situation?
What can be done to keep families together?
The real heroes are the outside organizations that try to fill in for the missing parent. Basically, it is a losing battle.
Please don't let the other posts offend, as they are talking about the real deadbeat welfare queens who start their lifestyles at about the age of 10. This lifestyle started in LBJ's Great Society, and we want it ended. It's time the pulled the wagon for a change.
“He used the example of a single, working mother with a couple of children:...”
Note, he doesn’t say that this is a real single working mother, just an example of one that he used .... a straw single working mother? Not that Slick Willy would ever quibble over terms, but is it possible that Socialist Kasich would use a Slick Willy trick?
What about the single mothers without children?
The real heroes to me are the dads who work hard to support their families, and moms who sacrifice a lot of the extras to stay home with their kids.
I know this isn’t always possible, but I know a lot of mothers who said they had to work, but it was to pay for a lot of perks. I also know a lot who said they couldn’t stand to stay home with kids all day.
I am not offended. I was merely pointing out that women like my sister who is a widow did a great job with her kids. One of my dearest friends is divorced and got her Masters Degree in Sociology while holding down a job. I have seen my share of welfare drones.
