Donald Trump On ObamaCare: ‘I Like the Mandate’
Breitbart.com ^ | 19 Feb 2016 | John Nolte

Posted on 02/19/2016 10:21:57 AM PST by Rockitz

During Thursday’s CNN Townhall event, when pressed by moderator Anderson Cooper on the “benefits” of the ObamaCare mandate, Republican frontrunner Donald Trump said, “Well, I like the mandate.” He then went on to blast ObamaCare as a “disaster” and President Obama as a liar.

Trump made clear that he is not for single payer healthcare and wants to allow private insurers to compete across state lines. Trump is, however, in favor of taking care “of those who cannot take care of themselves.” We do not want “people dying on the streets,” Trump said.

TrumpCare will not work without a mandate. Even a fifth-grader can figure that one out.

I wonder how much this costs in data to Free Republic.
The same could be done by simply linking to it on the prior threads.
The moderaters should stop this.

He was referring to the need to cover people w pre-existing conditions. Not penalizing people who don’t buy insurance.

Those are two sides of the same coin. If you require insurers to cover people with pre-existing conditions, but don't require people to purchase insurance, you create a YUGE free-rider problem: people will just wait until they get sick before purchasing insurance.

Both requirements are central to Obamacare, and both requirements need to go.

Clear and logical post.

Thank you.

Which means it will automatically be rationalized or dismissed by the Trump supporters.

Already has been.

I'm beginning to think Trump is right. He could shoot someone and nobody would care.

Quite the comment given this was lifted out of context.

Trump has already proposed that the government pay the medical bills of anyone without insurance. Knowing that, people will begin cancelling their policies so that they can have government-paid health care. Before long, no one has insurance. The government pays for everyone. Capisce?

So what is to stop that from happening?

That 3-month old exchange just goes to show that even Jim Robinson is not infallible.

The Donald Trump of November 2015 was a lot more conservative than the Donald Trump of today (or Donald Trump of 2014, 2002, 1993, 1997, etc.).

The fact that Trump believes whatever he believes in that exact instant - no matter what he might have stated at another time - is precisely why so many Trump opponents DISBELIEVE anything and everything he says.

I'm still gobsmacked that the Trumpsters are so very willing to be so very gullible. How many revelations of Trump inconsistencies, flip flops, backtracks & liberal policy positions and views will it take to shake you from your stupor?

I get the anger at DC mindest. I'm angry, too. But I've known all along that the entire Trump platform is as phony as a $3 bill.

Well, at least the Donald isn't running around screaming that the Pope is a "LIAR!"

He’s a roll of the dice for sure but the alternative hill or burn is sure fire end of a country.

I get what you're saying. I used to think I would be okay with voting for Trump if Cruz wasn't the nominee. After his PP position a couple months ago I began rethinking my position. As I started looking at him with more of a critical eye I liked him less and less. Now, I'm at the point if he's the nominee I'll sit this one out.

I think in a lot of ways Trump would be worse than hillary/bernie. The Pubs would willing go along with his leftist proposals and we would be set back even further. At least if it's hillary/bernie as opposed to Trump there might be some opposition.

They do sometimes. Sometimes you want it to be discussed, so multiple threads is beneficial. The keywords should help guide others to these associated threads. Maybe they could get the search feature to be a bit more inclusive of these ancillary threads.

I beg to differ. We gave the House and the Senate on the promise they would stop the won...they ended up bending over backward to give him everything he wanted while trying to pretend a pro forma fight.

I almost wonder if they would fight Trump just because of who he is....they like things just the way they are and don't want their gravy train stopped.

Meh, who knows, this country is so FUBAR it would take us generations to reverse it, if it even can be.

In a way, yes. It will be ugly if it happens. But in a democracy you get the government you deserve.

A lot of difference when you know what he says all the time, at all his speeches he tells people this:

Much of what Trump said in the rest of his response revolved around three main points:

1.I say this all the time, and I get standing ovations for saying it.

2.President Barack Obama lied to ensure Obamacare’s passage.

3.Obamacare will be repealed.

He wants to have open State health care options...if an insurance is cheaper in Texas and you live in Wyoming, you can cross State Lines to be insured...

It provides competition among the health care providers, lowers the cost of polities and if the health care provide who is wanting higher fees, they either come down lower or go out of business...

Competition is good for America...it lowers prices for Americans...

Driving a car is a privilege and involves risks some believe we should address by pooling resources. It is unjust and onerous to create and enforce laws based on contingencies. Law and justice should be meted out on the basis of RESULTS, not potential events.

Living and dying are absolutes that govern every living being. To stake a pool of resources and measure risks on life itself and allow the government to dictate the parameters is more asinine than a free human being should have to tolerate.

The moment Uncle Sam mandated health insurance was the moment I knew I was not dealing with my neighbors, but with a force that has overstepped its bounds in attempting to govern life and health itself. I would rather die a pauper than fall in with government-mandated health insurance, and if ever the opportunity arises to throw this mantle from off the American people I will be on the side of those aiming to do so.

Can you tell me one thing the elite establishment RINO Republicans have opposed Obama on? And don’t say immigration. The only reason the amnesty bill did not pass was because Eric Cantor got beat in his 2014 election in Virginia

The difference between requiring car insurance and requiring health insurance is that you don’t have to drive. You do have to exist.

Under THE MANDATE if you exist, you must purchase health insurance and join in the pool. It is a MANDATE that is required in order to participate in the act of breathing the air around you.

That being said, what gives the Federal Government the right to dictate to anyone that they must have some kind of health insurance?

Trump appears to be in favor of using the power of the Federal Government to fix a problem with free enterprise.

He seems to have a lot of big government solutions to problems created by big government. He is a top down manager. That is exactly what he will be as a president. Maybe you like that, but in a free society, top down management of individuals is tyranny.

“I do have suggestions for the Donald.”

Remember, the last thing the doctor + pharma + medical equipement + medical insurance complex wants is to get less money.
