During Thursdayâs CNN Townhall event, when pressed by moderator Anderson Cooper on the âbenefitsâ of the ObamaCare mandate, Republican frontrunner Donald Trump said, âWell, I like the mandate.â He then went on to blast ObamaCare as a âdisasterâ and President Obama as a liar.
Trump made clear that he is not for single payer healthcare and wants to allow private insurers to compete across state lines. Trump is, however, in favor of taking care âof those who cannot take care of themselves.â We do not want âpeople dying on the streets,â Trump said.

Insurance = mandate Bone = mandate
If you listen to the interviews and town halls where he talks about it, you will know exactly what he said and meant.
Just because gov’t isn’t running the show doesn’t mean people will be dying on the street or taken care of.
Before the Great Depression, benevolent societies and charitable hospitals accomplished this.
But donations from the middle class dried up during the GD so the gov stepped in...
...and it never stepped out. So people today actually believe gov’t is needed or charity won’t happen.
Sad days.
he said, ‘I like the mandate.’ Sorry, but you can’t twist what he said.
<PI love how all the TrumpRINOs bash John Roberts, even though Trump goes beyond Roberts in his approval.
Well, since it appears now anyway it’s going to likely be Trump who gets the nod, we all have a choice to make.
I have a lot of issues with Trump and realize there are no guarantees with him
He’s a roll of the dice for sure but the alternative hill or burn is sure fire end of a country.
Personally, I think I’ll roll the dice.
But, my dear X, you are not required to own a car.
Under Obama care you are required to have health insurance even if you are a young marathon runner.
Don’t come back at me about how even that person can be hurt or ill. I know that. I also know that it is the choice of that person to take that foolish chance if they so desire.
Do you want the government to tell you what to do about your health? I don’t. No telling what they’d make me do... give up beer or chocolate. It’s a nightmare to think about.
I still think there is an excellent chance that Trump will not get the nomination.
Not a good sign when huge poll numbers start going down instead of up.
But if we are unfortunate enough to select this odd person as a nominee, then I will ask someone to sedate me and drive me to the polls and vote for the SOB.
That’s the point, altura. IF I drive on the roads, I’m mandated to have insurance/coverage.
IF I have used medical care, then I would be mandated to have coverage.
Just between you, me, and the wall, a person without health insurance who CAN have health insurance is a dunce.
The Trumper motto should be "Hope we get Change this time".
HURRAH! Yours is the first posting of this today!
You ought to be real proud of yourself.
True, but do we want the government to tell us we can’t be a dunce?
What would happen to the Trump supporters?
I’ll agree with Ron on this. Trump definitely appears to be winning, and I’ll support him over democrat choices of Hill/Bern/Biden/Warren/Gore/Kerry/Satan, any day of the week.
I agree - plus, he ran as a Rep also because he thought Clinton had the Dem nomination locked up and there was no clear Rep frontrunner. How wrong he proved to be - Clinton is a terrible candidate, altho she probably could beat Trump.
Fortunately, we don’t have to decide that now.
I’m gonna wait and hope for another month or so.
This is not really worth getting over an argument about but I will point out you are not being forced to purchase anything if you can prove financial responsibility and choose to drive.
If you can't show FR then you may purchase insurance to fulfill that obligation.
I know, it's a fine line but one with distinction.
The only poll showing that is done by the WSJ. Most rational poll watchers call that an outlier, since all the others show the opposite.
The only poll that counts will be in SC on Saturday.
The RCP average show Trump will win as big as he did in NH.
It's also possible Cruz will slip to third.
We'll know tomorrow night, right?
I saw a couple others from different sources- Weekly Standard and Hotair. When Trump floats these it certainly shouldn’t be swept under the rug. It can be done with some of our suggestions.
Relax, trumpees.
How many Trump worship threads or posted every day.
Do I go to his prayer meetings? NO.
Do I complain about them? NO.

You would be more help to Mr. Haney if you would post stuff touting him.
You could very well be right, time will tell.
I know one thing for sure, you or I have no say so who is going to get the nod but I will do everything I can to keep the dems out of the office.
I caught about 30 mins of their debate last weekend, let me tell you, they're some scary azz people, their win would be the final nail.
So once again some of us are going to be forced to choose between one or the other, even if isn't not our preferred candidate....sucks but it's the reality.
A mandate would be proof that you have a health care plan.
That will look different for an Amish family than for a middle America middle class family.
How do you identify those who need coverage and don’t have it? They show up for care when they’re sick and ask for care. Then you log them into the system and tell them they obviously were wrong about not needing coverage.
Trump’s plan is the same we had before ObamaCare but with forced insurance for the indigent. I buy/find my own policy, you do that for yourself, and John Q Smith does for himself. It can be catastrophic or it can be Cadillac and it can be bought across state lines and it can be paid for from a health savings account.
Freddy the Freeloader, on the other hand, is forced to have health insurance because when the super bowl is own he has “heart” symptoms to get a hospital bed for the weekend.
Used to be they padded that onto YOUR hospital bill. The government paid for it as the hospital considered it a cost of doing business. Under Trump, it’s just cleanly billed to the government. Under that system, maybe some brave soul will come along some day and make that guy pick up litter for 8 hours a day to offset his expensive super bowl habits.
