AP-GfK Poll: Voters increasingly see Bernie Sanders as electable

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The more Democrats learn about Bernie Sanders, the more they appear to like him.

A greater percentage of Democratic registered voters view the Vermont senator as likable, honest, competent and compassionate than they did just two months ago, according to a new Associated Press-GfK poll. Seventy-two percent now believe he could win the general election, a 21 percentage point increase from the last time the survey was conducted in December.

The findings underscore the challenge facing Hillary Clinton as she enters the Democratic contest's pivotal spring stretch, when primaries across the country mean that many of the party's voters will finally get their say on her candidacy.

Clinton's campaign has argued that as voters learned more about his record, Sanders will begin to lose support. Instead, it seems that as Sanders has gotten more scrutiny, support for him has only grown. While Clinton continues to be the Democratic candidate who's most well-liked within her own party, Sanders is gaining on her.

Yup. The Bern has support among all Democratic demographics except blacks and the over 65 cohort.

Hitlery has the rest but the Bern is the future of the Democratic Party.

Socialism is no longer a dirty word on the Left.

Why is this surprising?

Obama was elected twice. And now Republicans are on their way to electing Trump.

The entire spectrum has taken a giant leap to the LEFT. Trump supporters included.

Electable? A better adjective is “certifiable.”

But then, so is a significant chunk of the electorate.

If the Country Clubbers, Chamber of Commerce, Club for Growth, crowd, hadn’t destroyed manufacturing in America, and flooded the country with Mexicans to lower the wages of the few working class, blue collar jobs that remained, the Barnie Sanders of the world wouldn’t have an audience.

I hope Bernie gets the Democrat nomination. He might pass away at an inopportune time though.

RE: He might pass away at an inopportune time though.

Let’s say that happens — wouldn’t the replacement be Hillary?

Eventually, Bernie’s life story will become general knowledge. He’s been a slacker his entire life. That will get him to 47%, but he can’t close to 50%.

Its not that Bernie is so great, its because Hillary is so bad.

Well, he’s not particularly distinguishable from Donald Trump.

Trump-Sanders, the old man New Yorker race would be interesting.

Not good, but interesting.

Rather sad.

We are one messed up country if these two idiots are the best we can do.

Things are pretty damn bad here in the US when a sizable amount of the electorate are desperate enough to elect a devout socialist into office of the president. And spare me the LIV lofo voter BS. This is being driven by the millenial 20something crowd, and the formerly gainfully employed of every class. People aren’t as stupid as you would like to believe. When these people wise up, this country is going to go straight into french revolution territory.

If this is Democrat registered voters, that probably means less than 1/2 of indies.

If she loses to Bernie? She’s already tainted then. I would say they pair him with a young upcomer (Corey Booker, Castro, or other minority for the identity vote) and probably off him purposefully.

You are quite right, of course.

Many U.S. educators, K through PhD. are indeed pleased to take credit for all you describe.

It might be a Biden-Warren ticket.

I think that might be too risky late in the game as well. I’d throw it all at the young, good looking minority and hope opposition research doesn’t find anything. Biden’s still Obama 2, and I don’t think a lot of indies want that.
