Real Clear Politics ^ | 2/18/16 | RCP

Posted on 02/18/2016 10:23:20 PM PST by Angels27

Trump - 42% Hillary - 47%

Trump - 38% Bernie - 53%

What gives with this poll? I know Donald Trump is extremely egotistical and loathsome, but would Americans put an open and avowed crook in the White House over him? Or avowed Socialist?

And whats up with Sanders beating the entire GOP field badly???? Are Americans really going to embrace Socialism now?

I admit, in 2012 I did not vote for Romney during the primary but standing in line in Nov 2012 I really felt he was going to win. I was really really let down.
I honestly believe Candy Crowley pushed Obola over the top

I thought you were for Trump, my mistake!

I don’t like Trump, don’t trust Trump and the way Trump treats people scares me! His ego is not Presidential material! And I still know his democratic leanings just a few years ago! We all know Reagan turned from democrat to republican but he changed over a couple of decades of time! And Trump is no Reagan by any means!

I spent a decade on here warning people about Willard and his leftist agenda, and why he needed to be stopped from getting anywhere near the Presidential nomination. That folks thought he was running a campaign to win were completely brainwashed or fooling themselves. The RINO Establishment has been so deeply in bed with the Democrats that their common enemy are Conservatives, and especially outsiders.

As for that fat cow Crowley, she could’ve kissed Willard’s ass throughout the debates, it was never going to change the pre-determined outcome: Zero was to be reelected.

I’m under no false impression that Cruz will win the nomination at this point. The smart move is to marry the two of them under the ticket for the general: Trump-Cruz.

Right now, our country is in such a state of decay that electing a “nice person” will do precisely nothing to stop the slide. We need a bull in a china shop who will obliterate those who’ve been complicit in causing this decay, and that includes the ENTIRETY of the GOP leadership. Reagan would be too nice. We need someone who’s like Lt. Col. Frank Slade, someone who will take a flamethrower to the place.

I can tell you if Reagan could see this disaster, he would tell folks to vote for Trump if he is the nominee. My sole worry about Trump is that he’ll dial back the anger, I don’t want him to, I want him red-faced enraged and ready to go on 1/20/2017. Rip down and destroy every leftist initiative, starting with open borders (a bipartisan creation). I want to hear the wailings and lamentations of the elite class whining “You can’t do that !” as he unleashes his agenda. Let the scum leave the country for good.

His anger is one of the things that turn me off of him along with his humongous ego!

If you wish to vote for him, that is your choice and I respect it, but unless something happens to convince me, I can not vote for him! I have never seen a primary season like this one and I am 67 years old! Cruz people say Trump is trashing Cruz and vice a versa. Just be glad when this thing is over!

Naah, his anger is what gets him support. People are very, very angry at what has happened to this country, and wheeling out more mealy-mouthed squishes who play Mr. Nice Guy or Mr. Polite while the Ship of State is a raging inferno won’t cut it anymore. It’s like with Peter Finch as Howard Beale in “Network.” The people that care about where we are need to scream out, “I’m as mad as hell, and I’m not going to take it anymore !”

First, folks just know the financial industry crashed the economy in 2008

Such folks are nitwits.

The government crashed the economy by enabling a real estate bubble caused by its compelling the banks to lend to un-credit-worthy types to realize a libtard goal of vote buying via enabling home ownership.

Crooks got no punishment, at all.

Why should the bankers have been punished? They cooperated with the government, even establishing expensive compliance departments! How are they to blame? The government wanted home ownership, and the bankers (and allied financial services types) did all they could to get with the program and comply!

In fact in my area, banks have been adding branches like there is no end.

Where I am, most of the sleek, new branches are green (TD Bank North) or red (Banco Santander). Neither of which is American, although both of them are fine retail banks. But B of A still has most of the free-standing ATMs.

Both those reasons are non-ideological, just like most or many voters.

The don’t like him for socialism; they like him for their versions of common sense and fairness.

That's why they are sheeple!

Polls :United States presidential election, 1980

December'79: Reagan 33% vs Carter 62%

Comments heard from the media and Rinos at the time:
"He's an actor, no one takes him seriously"
"He'll get us into a war!
"He's too extremist, no one will vote for him.
"Looks like it's shaping up for a Carter landslide victory"

"What about the other candidates who TRASH and IMPUGN and LIE about Trump? " - nopardons

Maybe a 100 to 1 Trump bashers to any other FREEPERS, and you're usually one of those eager beavers, from my casual survey. I'm generalizing, but trend is obvious. Oh, and hint, hint, a FREEPER pointing out something negative about your candidate's record is not a "dirty attack and lie", even if they're mistaken.

Tell me this, though. What rule in the Bible, secular philosopher, or whatever you revere, states that you have a right to insult anyone, ever? Who says that if someone insults you or your cause, then you have the right to go all Trump-talk on them? You think that you have the right to go after any FREEPER with insults if in behalf of your cause, just because they disagree with you? Because it's primary season? Into what part of "conservatism" does Machiavelli's "end justifies the means" fit?

"Did you fail American history in school, or did you just go to rotten schools?"

Well, there ya go again. I guess no one at FR can stop you from doing that Alinsky rule #5 thingy, right? Trump gives you that right?

THINK, MAN, THINK. Conservatives WILL NOT win in November if we practice the tactics of the progressive left in trying to get there. There'll be no "united, big tent" against the progressives after Trump has taken his shears to it.

LOL... I think Cruz will do well, even though he is getting hit from all directions with mud. Rubio throwing hissy fits over really minor stuff and Trump threatening to sue and his supporters launching frivolous lawsuits against him.

The Game isn't remotely over here even if Cruz doesn't win South Carolina. In states where it is not an open primary where democrats can crossover and vote for Truup (operation chaos 2016), Cruz will likely win.

Trump needed to win IOWA and has whined that it was stolen since he lost it. I heard Trump last night in the forums, and no people didn't vote for Cruz because they where scared because of a political mailer. That is quite insulting to the intelligence of the voters of Iowa. I have gotten all kind of mailers over the years and that was mild, I always file them in the same trashcan. That same type of mailer was used by the Rubio campaign, the McConnell campaign in Kentucky a few years ago, and the Florida Republican Party a few years ago. It wasn't something new.

"Did you sign up with Free Republic, just to bash DONALD J. TRUMP?

Just wondering...”

What if he did, do you own more than 50 percent of this forum!" - longhorn too

Review my forum posts. I'm an open book (as are we are. Is that what you think I'm about, just trashing Trump? Every single post I've respond to, to the best of my knowledge, was gently suggesting that maybe as conservatives and FREEPERS, we have more uniting us that dividing us, at least prior to Trump. (A few have suggested that FR was treading Alinsky before Trump, so timing may vary).

I don't own anything, but neither is this supposed to be TrumpRepublic either. We won't be united after the primaries unless we can dial it back now. Trump just ain't gonna win in November unless he has at least 80% of conservatives in his corner. Oh, he may take the nomination, as Romney, McCain, and Dole have done in prior elections. BUT NONE OF THEM DID THE ALINSKY PERSONAL INSULT ROUTINE LIKE TRUMP. If Trump wins the primary because he insults conservative candidates, he's going to lose those candidates voters in November.

There is no "enemy" here at FR. We are all on this forum because we generally support the same ideas. How about we act like it?

FReegards!

Iowa proved polls wrong. Like Rush says, hard data comes from voters. Additionally, if most polling is done via land lines, and a good percentage of the population does not have a land line, then the polling could be way off. We have not had a land line in 5 years, and do not answer numbers we do not recognize, and therefore will never be polled. I suspect we are not the only ones.

And yet on Election Day twice as many people took their time to vote for him than took their time to vote for Cruz.

I doubt (unfortunately) that any candidate will be leaving the race after SC. Bush & Carson, the most likely to be leaving, have not hinted at it & Kasich wants to stay in it until OH at least. Of course, your wishful thinking that Rubio & Cruz are done is just that, wishful thinking.

Regarding Trump needing to win in Iowa, that is such nonsense. It’s been a while since the winner of Iowa went on to even win the nomination. As it turned out, Iowa was a three way tie between Cruz, Trump and Rubio. Cruz’s narrow win did result in a one delegate lead but that was wiped out by Trump’s blowout victory in NH a week later.

If I was a Cruz supporter, I would not be reminiscing about what happened in Iowa.. I’d be focused on what is going to happen in SC tomorrow. If he gets blown out the way he did n NH, his campaign will need some serious retooling.

Bernie has no chance. Hes a failure his whole life, no accomplishments, living in his VW on food stamps, somehow managed to get voted to Senator in Vermont. The standards for U.S. Senator are the level of a dumpster diver.

I’m disgusted by voters who decide on looks. That’s how we got JFK, Clinton and Obama.
This country doesn’t need to be torn down it needs to go back to basics! To our first principles! If the constitution is not the guide to how we vote we are never going to be a great nation again.

To: Mr. Mojo

There are four main reasons why Obama won in 2008 that are not being replicated in 2016, in fact, one prominent one is the opposite of 2008.

Reasons Obama won:

1. Joe Biden was right. Obama was a clean, well spoken black man. Obama as black, meant many people decided they’d cast a vote for a black man to show their “modern, hip, temperament”. Maybe 10% voted this way.

2. The sudden, screeching halt of the economy. What happened on September 29th, 2008? The Dow fell 777.68 points, the most in any single day in history. Even if manipulated, it had a profound effect. And McCain decided to SUSPEND his campaign so he could fly to Washington and attempt a “fix”. Obama did NOT stop campaigning. Advantage Obama.

3. OVERWHELMING black support. 99%. And a huge voter turnout. The entire eligible (and some say more than those eligible) black population came out and voted.

4. Weariness with the Republicans and George Bush. After 7 years of war and Bush hardly ever defending himself and his policies, it was going to be an uphill battle for a Republican to win. The OPPOSITE, by the way, applies this election. The pendulum has swung to the other side.
