Those are my words...all I remember is that it was a government type system. I happen to agree that there are those who are unable to take care of themselves and you can’t just ignore them. Well, apparently you can.
You are myopic and apparently not out in the world very much. I personally know people, and I live an affluent life, who didn’t go to the doctor due to lack of health insurance.
The ER is expensive. People need their own doctors.
And now, you are just showing 'your' ignorance. The ER covers anyone and everyone that doesn't have insurance. That's supposedly why the left came up with Obamacare, to take the strain off of the ERs....emphasis on supposedly.
Obamacare is all about control of the American people and wealth redistribution...a twofer for the left. It was never ever about providing healthcare for everyone. It was about government having us by the shorthairs, per usual.
For Trump to show how he "likes the mandate" he is just showing who and what he really is, for those who are not too blind to see it clearly.
and who pays the ER? they work for free?
And presumably, if he has been “open about his position on healthcare”, you can direct me to a link that answers those questions.
...
You’d have to look at the videos of his rallies or interviews. No, he doesn’t have a written position on healthcare like he does for immigration or gun rights. At least not yet.
I’m thrilled that the two anti-establishment candidates are leading. I don’t expect either one to be perfect, and I’ll vote for either one. I find all this infighting to be counter productive.
Since you apparently have privileged knowledge of what goes on in Donald Trump’s head and what his specific proposals are, please explain what he means by “mandate” when he says “I like the mandate”. How do you know that by “the mandate” (note that he did not say “a mandate”) he means something other than what everybody else knows as “the mandate” in the context of Obamacare?
You do, via your taxes....assuming you pay any. It gets redistributed by the federal government, of course. That is why the federal government leftists came up with Obamacare. They wanted working Americans to all ‘share that cost’ more via the mandate. Government wanted to keep more of that taxpayer money to spend on more of their leftist social schemes.
So now, hard-working, ever-struggling Americans have to fork over more money to the insurance companies for health coverage that they, personally, may not need or want so that the strain is taken off of government to reimburse ERs that are treating the uninsured (mostly illegals).
You don’t know this? And you have the nerve to call someone ‘else’ myopic? Hilarious.
“Administrators at the hospital attribute the trend to the sluggish economy and say a pool of federal funds intended to pay for the uninsured is running out.”
“The federal law that requires hospitals to take all patients into emergency rooms is EMTALA, or the Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act passed in 1986. It requires hospitals that receive federal funds (just about all of them, thanks to Medicare) to provide treatment to anyone needing emergency care, regardless of their ability to pay.”
Can you explain then what the definition of mandate is in Trump's statement and where we can find that definition stated and/or documented? If someone could have explained that early in this thread it would have saved a lot of posting and arguing.
So you are a Cruz supporter, right?
You fit the personality traits.
You guys are going nuts this morning. I don’t care that you have some type of meaningless “gotcha” quote. He has not said once during this campaign that he supports forcing people to buy health insurance nor would he say that. He has said the first thing he is going to do is repeal Obamacare and replace it with free market solutions. You don’t need to have “priveledged knowledge” to know that you just have to listen to what he says. He has said it at least a thousand times during this campaign; he has never said once that he is going to force anyone to buy health insurance. That is bats**t crazy.
I am simply asking a question that you claim to have the answer to but you won’t give it. “I like the mandate” is not a gotcha quote, as there was no gotcha question. He blurted it out voluntarily.
A “gotcha” quote isn’t necessarily the result of “gotcha” question in fact in most cases they are just like this situation. You guys are seizing on something that is basically meaningless because he didn’t expound on it at all. Trump has not said he wants people to be forced to buy health insurance once during this campaign. If he meant this last night it would be a radical departure, so this doesn’t seem likely. I watched the entire “town hall”. He talked a lot longer about health care than even the two minute clip you have provided.
I have said on numerous occasions that every time Trump says he doesn’t want to see “people dying in the street” it makes me barf just a little in my mouth. That is because I spent 25 years working as a first responder and no one is emergency services regardless of their ability to pay ever. So does that make you a little happier. Donald Trump says stuff about health care that makes him sound clueless. So does Ted Cruz, Jeb, Marco, and even Ben Carson. Carson was a specialist and does not necessarily see the big picture even though he is the one who is most aware of health care issues.
Unfortunately we are getting a lot of that. "It's going to be unbelievable, believe me."
My support for Donald Trump is largely because he is the one who got the whole illegal invader problem to be a primary topic of discussion. The rest of them would all prefer to ignore it. Trump is the only one who will bring up these hot potatoes up and say what he thinks regardless of the consequences. I believe he is the one who will actually try to do something about what he is talking about and has a chance of getting it done.
Where we live our way of life is literally evaporating before our eyes. It must not be like that in many other parts of the country. If it were we would not be seeing so many “principled” arguments about crap that is secondary to preserving what we have left of our country.
Other people believe Cruz or others best represent their point of view. I respect that and will support whoever gets the nomination.
@realDonaldTrump: I was asked about healthcare by Anderson Cooper & have been consistent- I will repeal all of #ObamaCare, including the mandate, period.
@realDonaldTrump: I was referring to a backstop for pre-existing conditions. I will eliminate the law, in its entirety, & replace it w/ something much better.
You fit the personality traits.
Ironic, since you're the one that started in on the personal attack (calling me myopic) BS. Offhand, and from what I've observed at FR lately, you fit the profile of the typical Trump supporter to a "T".
Cruz has already proposed doing both those things too, but he doesn’t start pushing the idea that everybody has to be covered with insurance backed up by government funding. That is where Trump goes off the rails. How does Trump stop people from freeloading and not buying insurance, then just taking the government coverage when they get sick? I don’t know what Trump’s going to do so I can’t speculate on what the effects of it will be.
It sounds like you shopped around and found a good plan, so that’s how the free market should work. Luckily the loophole exception from Obamacare was in place there, because I think your company is not technically an “insurer.” If Obamacare is repealed, the price of your plan should go down because insurers won’t have to take on people with pre-existing conditions. As it is now, I think there is some kind of scheme within Obamacare to use the mandate penalties to help cover losses of insurers with payours if they take on too many patients with pre-existing conditions...no idea how that’s working out in practice at this point.
No matter, much better to have than a 10 second edited snip.
There are new ways of doing basic diagnostics for most common ills that can be done by Skype, phone, email, etc. It would be so much cheaper for governments (preferably local and state) to set up small clearance offices in poorer or spread out rural areas where people could go for a basic consultation and preliminary diagnosis. Decisions could then be made as to whether to go to an ER, to wait and see if the problem clears up, recommend an over the counter item like aspirin with instructions, or do minor treatment like cleaning and bandaging a small cut or abrasion.
