'He's got an awfully big wall at the Vatican, I will tell you!' Trump can't resist poking fun ...

'And he's got an awfully big wall at the Vatican, I will tell you.'

Trump reiterated his months-long contention that 'we're going to build a wall, and Mexico's going to pay for the wall. And that's the way it is.'

When Cooper reminded Trump that 'people do come and go through the Vatican, and it's open to tourists,' Trump pounced.

'They're going to come and go through the wall' he will erect on America's southern border, he said, 'but they're going to come and go legally. And that's what I want, and that's what a lot of people want, obviously.' The global leader of the Roman Catholic Church told reporters early Thursday en route to Europe after a visit to the U.S.-Mexico border that 'a person who thinks only about building walls, wherever they may be, and not building bridges, is not Christian. This is not in the gospel.'

Minutes later Trump had taken a harsh line, saying the Pope was 'disgraceful' for declaring he was not a Christian.

But he shrugged hours later, suggesting that 'somehow the government of Mexico spoke with the Pope, I mean they spent a lot of time with the Pope. And by the time he left he made a statement.'

'I didn't think it was a good thing for him to say, frankly,' Trump jabbed.

'I don't like fighting with the Pope. I don't think this is a fight.'

We don’t need more bridges - we need big tall walls.

Or some juicy toll booths.

No to Churchill! He drinks,he smokes cigars! He has been picture holding a nasty machine gun!

We need more statesmen like Mr. Chamberlain to negotiate with Hitler and Mussolini.

The pope is a typical “social justice”, Latin American, Leftist ideologue.

And we’re importing so many Latin American voters that we’ll be on the typical Latin American, Marxist-authoritarian seesaw before too long.

Not only is it surrounded by walls, the Vatican has one of the most restrictive immigration, citizenship policies of any nation in world.

Until the Pope sells off the billions of dollars worth of treasures in the Vatican and helps the poor, takes down HIS walls and revises his immigration policy, he should SHUT HIS MOUTH AND TEND TO HIS BUSINESS.

.

The Pope has NO jurisdiction over this nation nor its leaders, or soon to be LEADER OF THE FREE WORLD! He needs to just zip it; the Pope...NOT Trump !

Historically, red-blooded Americans have long been suspicious of popery.

Exactly what Romney or McCain would have said.

Which is why there is no President McCain or President Romney, despite relatively ideal conditions for such an eventuality.

No one said anything about creepy catholic alert. You are being overly sensitive.

A wall along the U.S. Mexican border would not completely wall in the U.S. either. I don’t see your point. The comparison is valid. Plus the Pope has a wall all around his popemobile doesn’t he? And Obama has a fence around the White House. It is fair to point out hyprocrisy.

I don’t want Trump to win. I just think it is first, strange to make someone’s salvation dependent on whether or not they support immigration law enforcement and/or a wall along our border with Mexico. Strange. Second, the timing is odd especially when two of the competing candidate are catholic. He is not completely unaware. He spoke in front of our Congress not so long ago. He is not a U.S. citizen and so I think it is not his business. There are plenty of Catholics who are U.S. citizens. Let them participate. Let them even let the Pope dictate to them what to think if they so choose. Just don’t have the Pope telling the rest of us what to think or who to vote for.

It used to be Popes told us we were not Christian because we believe in justification by faith alone in Christ alone. I miss those days. Now we are not Christian if we believe our immigration laws should be obeyed? Weird.

Anyway, I still wonder why the Pope chooses 2 days before a primary to make this statement. Is he trying to help Rubio and Jeb — both pro-amnesty, one closeted and one not closeted.

The pope and Trump are pretending to be at odds for the moment

Is that sarcasm? I did get a good laugh from that statement.

Trump should fund the creation of millions of leaflets showing pictures of Vatican City and “free housing, food, medical care here”. The leaflets should be handed to refugees as they enter Greece.

Then lets hear what the Pope has to say as millions of refugees storm the Vatican’s walls. I am sure the world will be very interested in learning about Catholic charity. ;-)

And THIS is why Trump and Cruz should be zinging liberalism instead of each other.

I agree. It drives me crazy the way they have been tearing each other down. It makes me now fear a Trump/Rubio ticket which will be far more liberal than a Trump/Cruz ticket and administration would have been.

The point is that silly freepers like you think that Vatican City is walled. It has a partial wall but the main area - including the Pope’s home - is open upon St. Peter’s Square. It has now become a geographical trutherism that Vatican City is walled and inaccessible.

Now go back to your Catholic conspiracy theories.

I support Trump and think this Pope is way out to lunch on many topics that aren’t ex-cathedra.

If Trump had any class at all he would he have simply said, "Well, that is his opinion."

The Pope is attempting to exercise political power and influence American politics. Meanwhile, the man who lives behind a wall that was erected to protect from invaders (you know which ones), says nothing about the invasion and rape of Catholic countries like Germany. Trump shows real leadership and grit to push back and highlight the hipocracy.

When the Pope speaks out to interfere with American politics...it is an indication to me that the “Obama” “one world” “big brother” doctrine is alive & well within the halls of the Communist/Socialists of the world, the Vatican & the Pope included. If the Pope & Obama had their way America would be infused with illegall migrants, terrorists, drug dealers, slave runners & traders and tyrant dictators of all stripes!!! Freedom, Liberty, Opportunity, Individual exceptional performance would be squashed, and the masses of the world will become the peons and pawns of the Obamabot & Pope despots, etc.!!! Sad!!!

Voters in South Carolina....take massive heed to this biased verbal infraction uttered by a Roman Catholic Pope. I am a life long devout Roman Catholic who fervently disagees with any of the words Pope Francis uttered in his obvious hate for Donald Trump and the American Republic!!! I urge you all to consider your loss of freedom and destiny that both Obama & Pope Francis seek to bestow upon you. Just as Obama has enslaved African-Americans in economic & opportunity slavery...these evil people will render their ego driven, power, regimes upon all humanity.

I urge every voter in South Carolina to turn out tomorrow, and cast their votes for Donald J. Trump as both a sign & strong message that we, the American people will not accept interference in our internal politics by a religious fanatic outside of our country, such as the Roman Catholic Pope. Do not be fooled, this was a deeply thought out, planned action by Mexico, the Vatican an POTUS Barack Hussein Obama!!! Laugh and sneer, if you will, but heed this warning, and put it down right now with you vote for Trump...tomorrow, in the morning, in the afternoon and in the early evening.....DO IT!!! Vote for Donald J. Trump!!! GO DONALD TRUMP!!

It's the pope who was classless.

Interjecting himself and his socialist, non Christian views into the American election was totally shameful.

Being one who thinks of all in regards to eternity, Trump was right in saying that the Pope has his own opinion. However, he could have added that the only opinion he was truly concerned about is that of the One before Whom both he and the Pope kneel and the opinion of the people for whom he is running for president.

If he couldn’t say either of these, then Houston, we have a problem.

You need to read the Pope's exact quote:

"POPE FRANCIS: Thank God he said I was a politician because Aristotle defined the human person as "animal politicus." So at least I am a human person. As to whether I am a pawn, well, maybe, I don't know. I'll leave that up to your judgment and that of the people. And then, a person who thinks only about building walls, wherever they may be, and not building bridges, is not Christian. This is not in the Gospel. As far as what you said about whether I would advise to vote or not to vote, I am not going to get involved in that. I say only that this man is not Christian if he has said things like that. We must see if he said things in that way and in this I give the benefit of the doubt."
