A few months ago I wrote that Donald Trump was probably going to withdraw before the Iowa caucuses rather than face the embarrassment of defeat. Wrong. He did lose Iowa, seemed momentarily humbled, but then quickly reverted to form by asserting that he really won. He went on to a landslide victory in New Hampshire and now leads in South Carolina.
While much of the political world speculates that Trump may be creating a new kind of candidacy largely immune to normal attacks, let me make another assertion (that may prove as wrong as the previous): Donald Trump should be easy to defeat. What makes him not a ânormalâ candidate actually makes him more vulnerable rather than stronger. Let me explain.
In a Republican primary, Trump lacks both an ideological or geographic base. For all the focus on his bigoted remarks about Mexicans and Muslims, Trump has won self-identified moderate voters in both Iowa and New Hampshire. In Iowa, he lost conservatives and very conservatives but won them in NH (in a landslide victory like he had in NH, itâs hard to win everything.) In a party that is increasingly dominated by the South and Sunbelt, Trump lives on Fifth Avenue.

Bigoted remarks? Screw this guy. You post crap from leftist sites and expect anyone here to take you seriously?
That is a fact. Our party self-destructs every time with childish fighting.
Again.
Oh, you got him now. Trump will surely drop out of the race after all true blue republicans read this. This should be in breaking news.
IMO, just shows the Dems got the word out that they can’t beat Trump in the general election. They thought they could, but after Trump smacked down Hillary on the “War on Women” meme by bringing up Bill’s conduct, the Dems are looking for the GOP to nominate someone else. Jeb? won’t make it, so the question is...which remaining GOP candidate are the Dems rooting for? My guess is Rubio or Kasich.
Good catch on this article!
Again Trump is my #1 choice, Cruz #2 and REALLY don’t want to have to hold my nose for a #3.
Wrong his base's 'ideaology' is the US CONSTITUTION, and the geography is THE ENTIRE COUNTRY
you see libtards cannot think of anything except 'the black vote' or 'the southern christian' vote...
Everything to them is voting blocks and trying to overlap as many as they can with their one single issue, since all blacks vote the exact same and all christians vote the exact same...
And no matter what the votig blocks want, they will all get the same thing - socialism
I like these pointers.
In addition, I would suggest pointing at him and insulting him brazenly (like he does to the others) in the next debate, making him look smaller. Then look at the audience and ask them point blank whether they want their kids to emulate a womanizing, arrogant, amoral, rude divorcee twice-over, because like it or not the President acts as a role model inevitably.
Trump is not one of our own. However, Cruz is, and Trump, with the help of the left-wing media and GOP-e, has tried to take him out via character assassination. Trump knows he stands no chance against Cruz if the focus is on the actual issues.
That’s it! Every single person in those large Trump audiences hates Jesus and America! And Mohammad, Budda, and Gaia Mother of Earth too! And they hate Cleveland!
That I have to tell you that those potatoes at his rallies are completely self-selected and not representative of the nation as a whole only underscores how stupid most Trumpettes are.
This is not breaking news, it’s merely another anti-trump opinion piece from uber-Progressive Daily Beast.
No way this belongs on breaking news. Barely even belongs on FR at all.
I’ve asked the mods to remove it from front page news.
Perfectly understandable.
There’s a light at the end of the tunnel. Too bad it’s the TRUMP TRAIN.
>>Great advice to save conservatism
Because the Daily Beast loves conservatism so much? LOL
Why don’t you stick to bashing Trump, instead of others that may not agree with you.
I’m going to put this as honestly as I possibly can. I went into this fully supporting Cruz, but the constant bashing of other FReepers because they don’t hate Trump as much as you do has caused me to rethink my support.
Nothing the candidates have said or done made me rethink, but the personal attacks here have.
I wish some would rethink their own strategery.
Stu Stevens? Romney’s “strategist”? LMAO.
Gutsy kid. Let’s run her for POTUS.
