A few months ago I wrote that Donald Trump was probably going to withdraw before the Iowa caucuses rather than face the embarrassment of defeat. Wrong. He did lose Iowa, seemed momentarily humbled, but then quickly reverted to form by asserting that he really won. He went on to a landslide victory in New Hampshire and now leads in South Carolina.
While much of the political world speculates that Trump may be creating a new kind of candidacy largely immune to normal attacks, let me make another assertion (that may prove as wrong as the previous): Donald Trump should be easy to defeat. What makes him not a ânormalâ candidate actually makes him more vulnerable rather than stronger. Let me explain.
In a Republican primary, Trump lacks both an ideological or geographic base. For all the focus on his bigoted remarks about Mexicans and Muslims, Trump has won self-identified moderate voters in both Iowa and New Hampshire. In Iowa, he lost conservatives and very conservatives but won them in NH (in a landslide victory like he had in NH, itâs hard to win everything.) In a party that is increasingly dominated by the South and Sunbelt, Trump lives on Fifth Avenue.

Trump is a life long lefty.
I think all Cruz-supporting posters should announce and declare this. Over and over. Sometimes in long posts with multiple fonts.
Put it in breaking news.
It’s a message that is obviously convincing millions.
Yep. They should continue calling Trump supporters names and screaming how holy they are and how stupid everyone else is.
That should seal the deal for Cruz.
You are just too funny... Mussolini? Sure... Trump a ‘fascist’, what will you all come up with next?
Doesn't work. Why? Because Trump just shrugs them off and hits back twice as hard-- look at all the accusations that Cruz is a liar, which are getting repeated so much they'll stick even if they're not true.
Watching the other candidates and the media go after Trump is like watching a Little League team go after the NY Yankees. It just produces more embarrassment for Trump's opponents.
Don't get me wrong: I don't think Trump is very conservative in many ways. But I also think Trump's candidacy is revealing that much of American conservatism is (in political terms) like a particularly well preserved mummy: it looks alive until it falls over and crumbles into pieces.
What people want is protection from predatory immigration and predatory "free" trade to fix the economy. To them, if the economy doesn't get fixed (which requires kicking the establishment in the nuts) nothing else matters.
It appears that "all your base are belong to Trump."
Trump leads in all the demographics among Republican candidates. Trump has created the Big Tent Republican party that the GOP-e has whined about for twenty or so years, and he did it without the establishment help. Actually, the establishment has openly been trying to thwart his efforts all along the way. In some polls, Trump gets 40% of the black vote, and 40% of the Hispanic vote. Trump gets pluralities of every single demographic, and still the GOP-e is openly against him. Why???
Here it is. The GOP-e is not interested in winning elections. They are only interested in keeping the multi-Trillion Dollar Gravy Train running, and it doesn't matter which party is in office. They gets their cut.
Trump is a threat to their gravy train.
How? Not by the media?
This is really out of hand.
I posted yesterday the reason for a man like Trumps popularity.
It started, actually in the 10 election, and really got bad in the last, when they all PROMISED if we just elected a majority that they will do everything they promised.
Well, did they?
That is it, in a nut shell, plain and simple.
That orangey moron is not as popular as you imagine him to be.
So why is he schlonging your guy?
Let me explain, no really let me explain, stop laughing,
I remember the good old days of hand written notebooks when the paranoid schizophrenics use to have notebooks filled using 3 or 4 colors of ink. I don't think most of our Cruzberger's are that sick. They just like ceiling fans and flickering lights a whole lot.
Read up on Italian fascism, with its core of economic nationalism and its vilification of the other, and then read trump’s position papers, such as they are, and you’ll quit laughing.
You’ve got that right. Obama won two elections because 30-40 million evangelical Christiansstayed home because the GOP candidate did not reflect their Christian conservative positions. If Trump is the nominee, it will be even worse.
And the public never knows about any of that stuff. The media, the GOP, even his opponents won’t present any of it.
Well at least YOU ALL have decided the Hitler/Nazi accusation will NOT fly... I am sick of those who sew seeds of deception... GOT it!!!!
Advice? Stuart Stevens admits he gets it wrong within the first 150 words of an atypical character assassination piece.
I’m sick of these campaign wonks.
I am willing to sell some very rare hard to find piece of red trumponite if anyone is interested. Much stronger than green trumponite.
Another Trumpbot who signed up in Sept. 2015.
Problem is, many Trump supporters donât care what these people think or say.
Orange man - Oh noes!!! Supporters paint their faces orange as a rally cry.
Mexico - Gasp!! M-13 are just children?
Bankruptcies - Clutch my pearls! Iâm going to faint!!
Hyperventilating!! Somebody fetch a paper bag!
Maybe they need a revival with a foam party following. Thatâll fix em.
These people are so clueless is shocking.
Projecting a bit? Ted Cruz campaigned for Barack Obama’s legacy trade agenda and at this very moment his Super PAC is raking in millions in anonymous, money laundered donations. Clueless? Pot. Meet Kettle.
Saturday night and Sunday ought to be fun here.
Predicting wide spread cranial conflagrations with a likely chance of opus outbreaks.
“Iâll blame whomever I want. I am an anti-fascist first and a Reublican second.
Carry on with your bad self.
“and its vilification of the other,”
You don’t say. Got a mirror?
