At a town hall today in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, Donald Trump floated the idea -- without explicitly threatening to do so -- that he may run as an independent candidate.
Trump attacked the Republican National Committee, saying it "better get its act together" and it "does a terrible job." Trump said he believes the RNC treated him unfairly.
Trump also went off on the crowd that booed him during Saturday night's GOP debate in South Carolina: "Look at it, that was a wealthy room."
"The whole room was made of special interests and donors, which is a disgrace from the RNC," Trump said. "The RNC better get its act together because, you know, I signed a pledge. The pledge isn’t being honored by the RNC."
Trump signed an RNC pledge in September, agreeing not to run a third-party candidacy and to support the eventual Republican nominee.
"I signed a pledge, but it’s a double-edged pledge. As far as I’m concerned, they’re in default on their pledge," Trump said of the RNC.
Trump also spent several minutes hitting Sen. Ted Cruz on dirty campaign tactics, calling him the most dishonest guy in politics he’s ever met.
He’s criticized Cruz “holding up the Bible,” and says he’s beating Cruz when it comes to evangelical voters.

I hope he does sue, either do it or stop threatening.... a threat stops being a threat after about 3 times of not following through.
...now has he planned this all along... Be a wrecking ball to the Republicans, then exit and run as an independent.
It’s about him, not America.
He needs to stop playing, “I’ll take my ball and go home” game.
He sounds neither presidential nor like a winner when he plays these melodramatic games.
The gop has it in for him, they hate him because he will do what the rinos dont want. Get rid of illegal aliens and ban Islamic immigration
Trump is pretty volatile.
He would do it because that debate room crowd really was an abuse of fairness. Cruz said the same thing. Many others have commented on it.
He’s upset because people boo’ed him. He’s goin’ crazy!
The way Trump was treated in the last debate was shameful
“Trump said he believes the RNC treated him unfairly.”
Good God, man up and stop your damned whining, Trump!!
Stop it Donald.
Of course he did. every time someone affects his fragile sensibilities, he starts whining, threatening lawsuits, and now he’s gonna go third party again. He’s a narcissistic windbag. newsflash Donald, it’s the primary season, negative ads towards you doesn’t make you special.
Such a misleading headline.
I watched the press conference. He did not hint at anything. He said the RNC was “in default of it’s pledge”. He didn’t hint, threaten or suggest he would go 3rd party/independent.
Trump’s winning despite all the GOPe has thrown at him. He doesn’t need to go independent, IMO. I do like it when he throws grenades out for the MSM/GOPe to jump on though.
Go Trump!
He is right, it was shameful to watch how he was treated in the last debate
As long as Trump keeps winning, the point is moot
His recent positioning makes his 3rd party potential a serious threat. He draws support from across the spectrum.
The whining and blaming things on other people, who else do we know who does this?
The crowd was stacked, Cruz has distorted Trump’s positions. Trump does not hold back on anyone, this is great. Think how he will challenge the globalist monoliths.
“The way Trump was treated in the last debate was shameful”
Then he in all his vaunted awesomeness should suck it up and overcome it instead of dropping — for the third time — hints about throwing the race to the dems (which is exactly what he’d be doing).
Just go already, Donald. I’m bored with your whiny, crybaby self.
