Trump: If GOP Doesn’t Admit Iraq War Was a Mistake, We’re Not Going to Win the General Election
Breitbart ^ | 02/14/16 | Pam Key

Posted on 02/15/2016 12:28:07 AM PST by Enlightened1

Sunday on Fox News Channel’s “Fox & Friends,” Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump warned if the Republican Party isn’t willing to admit the 2003 invasion of Iraq was a mistake, then the party will be defeated in the upcoming general election.

Trump said, “The Iraq war was a disaster. It was a mistake. We spent $2 trillion, thousands of lives, thousands of lives, wounded warriors who we love all over the place. What do we have? Nothing. Absolutely nothing. Iran is taking over Iraq as sure as you’re sitting there. And that’s the way it is. We get nothing. They get the oil, they get everything. We get nothing. So it was a huge mistake. Whether people like it or not. and I’m the only one with the vision to have said don’t do it. And I wasn’t even a politician when I said that.”

He added, “Something’s going to have to happen with the party or we’re going to lose yet another election. I’m not even doing it to win election, I’m doing it out of common sense. The war was a horrible thing. If we’re not going to admit that, you’re going to have yet another election where the Democrats are going to win.”

RE:”It was, at least staying after toppling Saddamn was.”

I long concluded that once they knocked off the government (and military) they concluded they owned whatever resulted.

Its not like they attacked us like the Japs did, and we owned that too(didn't want a repeat of the post WWI developments).

What they didn't do was warn Americans that we would own the resulting mess, because they probably wouldn't have won that vote. If anything they downplayed the future cost and complications.

RE:”It's also not an issue in this campaign, it doesn't help the party to bring it up. We want voters to FORGET about George W. Bush.”

Its the primary.

Once Trump wins that he will employ a different strategy.

If the Dem nominee tries to bring up Trump's primary positions he will call her or him a ‘real nasty liar.‘
Might even call Hillary a ‘bitch.’

Then he will say he never said that either

And the threads here will be full of 'Right on's.

“Thanks, I rarely get to read something that is so inconsequential and incomprehensible.”

And yours above is a statement of “consequence”, right?

Go Trump!

“We never crushed the Moslems, we let them be in charge, and we treat islam with total deference. We even wear gloves as our soldiers touch a Koran.”

That policy will go right into the shitcan about a second after President Trump is reminded of it.

No, I am not kidding you, and the democrats are, in fact, part of America.

And if elements of our government are going to purposely lose wars and engage in politicizing wars for their own gain, then it is best not to go to war until that party is brought under control or eliminated altogether.

And I frankly think that George Bush lost the war as soon as he said islam is a religion of peace, because islam is what we are at war with, and we are losing.

It is a direct result of our going into the middle east after 9/11.

It has taken many years to evolve into what it is, but that is when it started.

And no, I don’t think admitting the war was a failure is the defining issue of this election.

The defining issue of this election is our government purposely trying to remold this country through any number of means including immigration.

Basically our government is the enemy of every American citizen, and I’m not sure that Trump understands or sees that to be honest.

I’m not sure that any of the candidates do.

Yeah, the GOP screws up all the time. Doesn’t mean that them admitting something that was supposedly a bad political move will make anyone trust them more. Nor will it make anyone against the war vote for Republicans. This is an issue that is making our country hang in the balance.

The GOP needs to purge the last vestiges of the Bush-era from their ranks, if they are going to move forward. The Bushes single-handedly have almost killed the party.

Much of what we see today is indeed Obama’s fault.

Bush went astray when he said islam is a religion of peace, however.

He at that exact moment failed to identify the adversary and doomed us to failure with political correctness.

And we are stilling dealing with the effect of that lie today.

islam is a weapon of war, and it is being used against us to great effect.

See my post 22, which I believe you first replied to. That is exactly my point. This is a non-issue. The Republicans admitting or denying something that cannot be fixed at this point is stupid. For Trump to claim “we’ll lose if the GOP doesn’t fess up” is stupid. This guy doesn’t seem to understand what are the pertinent topics he needs to pursue in order to win this election.

Wow, best argument I’ve ever seen to convincing someone to vote for Trump. Hands down. Have you ever thought of being a campaign manager? I mean, with such pithy and persuasive arguments, you could get anyone to vote for Trump. You certainly have convinced me that Trump is the best and that I should become a part of his Tribble hair cult.

"There are a lot of Republican voters who feel Iraq was a mistake who are ignorant"

There fixed it.

I won’t argue with that, it’s not a critical election issue.

Sometimes Trump seems to over focus on things that he thinks are important, but they may not be important to others.

He is obviously a beginner campaigner, and sometimes that works to his advantage, and other times it doesn’t.

His approach does seem to be scattershot at times.

But as I said previously, I don’t necessarily think Trump understands the true nature of the problems this country faces, and I don’t think Cruz does either. If he does, he’s not saying so specifically.

And none of the other candidates are even in the ball park, I don’t think they even merit discussion or serious thought, they are a bunch of fools.

Well, we can agree on that for sure. Any idiot can be a politician.

Trump just painted himself into a corner. He did not even have to do this.
This is what happens when you speak without thinking.

I prefer someone that is real vs. a fraud or an Actor.

Trump will win South Carolina. He has the same and even a bigger lead in South Carolina than he did in New Hampshire.
