How series it is depends not only on the obvious issue of who eventually replaces Scalia. The more complicated question is whether the current 8-member court will attempt to hear gun cases and end up in 4-4 ties. This, I believe, would mean that various lower court decisions would stand, though precedent would not be set and they could be relatively easily overturned later by a 9-member SCOTUS.
