GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump says he does not agree with comments from Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia questioning the efficacy of affirmative action.
"I don't like what he said, no, I donât like what he said. I heard him, I was like, 'Let me read it again,' because I actually read it in print, and Iâm going, I read a lot of stuff, and Iâm going, 'Woah,'" Trump said in an interview televised Sunday on CNN's "State of the Union."
The billionaire said he thought Scalia's comments were "very tough to the African-American community."
Trump, who has supported affirmative action in the past but declined to say whether he was in favor of it today, said he has great friendships with black people.
"I have great African-American friendships," he said. "I have just amazing relationships. And so many positive things have happened."
In oral argument for a case challenging affirmative action at public universities earlier this week, Scalia posited that minority students who were not qualified for admission at elite universities would perform better at "less-advanced schools."
Scalia was excoriated by Democratic lawmakers, including Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.), who called his comments "racist."
Just a back door Gotcha that didn't work out for the Media.
Besides, like Gay Marriage, that Horse has already left the Barn. To think otherwise is folly.
I am beyond caring. Whomever the Republican is that makes it to November gets my Vote against the DemoncRat, period.
Scalia passing away was the cherry on top. When the Romney is worse than Obama crowd was wailing back in 2012, I repeatedly Posted that the SCOTUS Appointments that would be coming up make it a mute point and we should Vote for the Republican against the DemoncRat.
Well, the Chickens have come home to roost and the SCOTUS will be a Liberal free for all long after all of us are Worm food.
The Cruzers, Trumpsters and Rubots can knock themselves out until March comes around and we know who makes the cut. After that is decided, everyone had better think long and hard about Supporting the Republican Nominee or get used to the term Madame President.
Bolshevik Bernie will never be allowed to make it to November, so the least I can hope for is a Riot outside the brokered DemoncRat Convention that will make the Civil Unrest outside the 68 DemoncRat Convention pale in comparison.
Well said.
Trump is for Affirmative Action.
Thanks. When we start to despair, we need to say a prayer and rejoin the battle.
I’m thinking the same but I think it will happen before October. Notice how each week that passes more and more of his liberal leanings come through.
And Trump was funding the Democrats. He was praising them. He was denouncing the conservatives. So you can say you’re disappointed in the Republicans, and I can understand that. But why do you then accept a guy who worked to obstruct the views you allegedly have? I could even get it if Trump really were a conservative, but he’s not. And his first stop after joining us just recently is to be President of the United States. Have you never been conned before? This is the guy who praised Hillary as someone who’d make a great president. He praised Obama. He wanted the Clintons at his wedding. Apparently, what he does matters less than the new things he’s come up with that have his supporters swooning so much they need not consider just how vile he is to anyone not on the Trump bandwagon.
Thanks.
The Commandment you’re breaking is telling the truth about Trump! :-)
“Here is a notice to his supporters, most Republicans cannot stand Trump. Most Independents cannot stand Trump. And his “former” Democrats cannot stand him ... “
Here’s my brief response to your screed. If so many Republicans, Independents and “former” Democrats cannot stand him, why are they voting for him?
What do you want—another establishment GOP loser stiff?
Let’s not bicker and argue over who killed `conservatism’.
Let’s re-define conservatism. With Trump we can pick up blue-collars, black Americans, and any `Hispanics’ who spurn the term Hispanic for plain “American” ... and even gays who appreciate that they are abnormal to the rest of us and agree to not use their private lives as political and legal hammer. Then we can begin reversing the excesses of the last 8 years. We can move forward in crushing Obama, Pelosi, Reid and Clinton’s party of grievance politics.
Or we can lose again and the establishment GOP will die like a rabid, whinging, yellow cur. It’s a real Hobson’s choice, ain’t it?
A GOP led Congress did ban partial birth abortion. President GWB signed the law. Bill Clinton had banned the law when it had been passed previously by the GOP led Congress. The USSC upheld it when Planned Parenthood (who Trump wants to continue giving taxpayer money) challenged it in the courts. Did you miss all this?
The GOP led House voted to defund Planned Parenthhod. Democrats blocked it in the Senate.
The cited comments from Scalia reflect extensive and thorough comments by Thomas Sowell, among others.
A resounding HELL, NO to that traitor talk. But thanks for admitting Trump wants to "redefine" conservatism. Conservatism doesn't NEED redefining. It's the God-given truth, the ONLY intelligent choice and it always has been. You CANNOT "redefine" the truth. You can only either accept it or deny it.
The myth of picking up "moderate" voters is what the establishment told us McCain and Romney would do. It's total crap. You win by exciting your base and building out from there, and the one true base of republicans is Christian conservatives. Ted Cruz excites those like no other while also exciting libertarians and national security hawks.
The voters you talk about will line up behind the Democrats the minute the general election campaign starts and the Dems push all the usual buttons of sexist, racist Republicans, which Trump feeds into like NO other candidate. He will lose in a landslide against the Democrat.
Trump will never lead conservatism because he’ll keep changing it to whatever happens to cross his unprincipled and mercurial mind. If you really think Trump is going to win Democrat votes, you’re kidding yourself and not surprisingly want the Republican party destroyed by Trump. Why, then, he runs as a Republican is unclear since he and his supporters want the party destroyed, which will only help the Democrats. But we can agree that he couldn’t have run as a Democrat because they would not let him shoot right to the top. He had to come over to the Republican side where he could invent a new age niche of pseudo conservatism invented by Trump.
Trump does not want to fund abortions at PP. Stop with the dishonesty.
See this is the game the gop plays. DT knows to get more votes for something, you don’t come out and condemn an entire company. However, saying that womens health issues are good, but abortions are bad to fund, he gets people who would not otherwise listen to listen. I’m pretty sure he knows, and I know, and you know that almost all of PP projects are abortions. But demonizing a group that so many blindly support will not get you the votes you need. You get the voters you need to actually LISTEN, and then you can make some progress.
Contrary to popular believe the gop is not stupid. They just need a voting base. I refuse to keep being suckered into their game.
Yep... he's not even a rino.... he's just a New York liberal, casino crap game operator, con man. And he has been his entire life. That's what he is. That's all he is.
Any funding of Planned Parenthood funds abortions either directly or indirectly. PERIOD. They also use the money to fight any laws against abortion on demand in court.
yadda yadda yadda
run along and try to sell your stuff somewhere else
Planned Parenthood sells baby parts for profit. And Donald Trump defended them as being an organization that does a lot of good things. That’s what he said last night. They are murderers for profit and Trumpy defends them. They should be imprisoned for violating the law, and Trumpy defends them. It is what it is.... and he’s garbage.
He is the Noam Chomsky candidate. He proved it last night.
