The 35% corporate income tax in the US is insane!

United Technologies paid a tax rate closer to 12% last year on profits of over $17 billion.

The higher prices means that a foreign made product is a better buy so the US based manufacturer goes bankrupt.

If the air conditioners are built in Mexico and sold here then UTC is still going to be taxed on that income. Taxes have nothing to do with it. Increasing profits does.

The corporate income tax should be 0.0%
Capital gains tax should be 0.0%

Then that means that the additional profits UTC recognizes from building the air conditioners in Mexico will be taxed at zero percent instead of 12% or 15% or whatever. That will free up extra money for stock buybacks, dividends, and executive bonuses. I'm sure UTC would support you on that.

It is because of the likes of Obama that their jobs are gone.

Companies have been sending jobs abroad before Obama was president. They'll continue to do it under a President Cruz or President Trump. Wake up.

I don't think we disagree in principle that this sending jobs off shore is a bad thing. I think we disagree on remedy. And I think concentrating on manufacturing jobs ignores the fact that hundreds of thousands of IT and call center and accounting and medical administrative and finance jobs have all been sent overseas in the last few decades, and neither Trump or any other candidate has suggested ways to address that.

I guess you missed the part about tariffs. Do you think UTC would move that plant to Mexico with a standing 20% duty on every product shipped into the USA?

Perot was right about NAFTA, but don’t forget he was responsible for giving us Clinton for two terms. I always thought the fix was in between Perot and Clinton.

There are a lot of expatriates in Monterrey, and not just from the USA. I suspect Carrier will pick up some decent Sups/mgrs. on the cheap. Drag a few out of the local retirement community, offer a few transfers. Sad situation.

Honestly? Yes, I do. I think they will pass the cost on to consumers. Because if you look at it either their competition will also be manufacturing their products abroad, and will be subject to the same tariff, or they will be raising the prices of their U.S. made products about 20% because after all they can do that and still compete with UTC products.

Besides, how do you tariff all those non-manufacturing jobs back to the U.S.?

No wrong, wrong because no CEO in their right mind is going to move their operations to Mexico and then pay a tariff. If others got caught with their pants down and moved off shore pre tariff then Carrier reaps huge profits and increased market share. They get rewarded for pro American and pro Nationalist behavior. These are greedy bastards we are dealing with here. Tariffs are a naked play at altering corporate behavior. They also generate good revenue and can relieve some of the income tax burden on individual filers but that is another issue altogether.

I am not talking about non manufacturing jobs. Different subject. I am talking brick and mortar.

That's just it, nobody is. In the three years it takes to completely move those 1400 manufacturing jobs to Mexico how many tens of thousands of non-manufacturing jobs will go overseas? And nobody gives a damn except for the people affected and their families.

I remember a parody song or two about the ole hand grenade with a crewcut.

Granted I was never big on H.Ross but he looks like he was right about NAFTA.

Business are not in business to create jobs....this is what happens when unions run up wages and governments run up taxes and regulations. Carrier had to decide between going to Mexico or going out of business!!!

You take information from where ever you can get it. His party affiliation doesn't preclude the answer as being non factual. I choose to believe this as no one has shown me a Carrier denial. If you listen to the Carrier messenger he doesn't mention it in his 'see ya' later announcement.
