Although the decision to inform a workforce of 1,400 employees that they'll soon be losing their jobs to Mexico is an admirable one from the standpoint of candor, it hardly makes for a good recipe for workplace morale.
A cell phone video taken at Carrier Air Conditioner in Indianapolis shows the exact moment that the plant and union workers were told that the company had decided to shift production south of the border.
"The best way to stay competitive and protect the business for longterm is to move production from our facility in Indianapolis to Monterrey, Mexico," says the company representative at the microphone.
Although the change would not take effect until 2017, the reactions from the gathered restless crowd were telling.

We’ll take ‘em!
Let’s see. Ohio is a right-to-work state, right? /sarcasm
Mandatory union membership, right?
Voted democrat the last two elections, right?
Now, how many of those who just got cut are ... union members who had been sending their taxes to democrats in the NEA and SEIU who are driving the democrats in Ohio and Washington and in academia to force up US costs and EPA and HHS and healthcare and OSHA requirements?
Ay, ay, ay, ay! oh, I am dee Frito Bandito. I like Fritos corn chips, I love them, I do. I want Fritos corn chips. I’ll get them, from you.
Very offensive, I’m sure.
We are not getting the Mexicans in America here fast enough to go to work in our manufacturing industry. So we are moving the industry to them.
Makes perfect sense. lol
Indiana.
and the unemployment rate will go DOWN
This will result in many more than 1400 job losses.
Remember that 2/3 of the economy is consumer spending, everything from people going to the movies, to going to Starbucks, to going grocery shopping, to shopping at department stores, to going to bars and restaurants.
So, these 1400 jobs support many more jobs in the various consumer service businesses such as I’ve noted here.
I’ve seen some calculations that the number of jobs lost when a major employer cuts jobs can end up being double or even triple the number of jobs eliminated, as cascading layoffs occur in those consumer service businesses.
This is happening in Indiana and Indiana is a RTW state.
Would have been awesome if someone in the audience started a “TRUMP TRUMP TRUMP TRUMP..” chant! Also he states the first “transition” will start in the middle of 2017. WELL YEAH BUT ONLY IF TRUMP’S NOT ELECTED!!!
Nintendo did the same thing back when NAFTA was implemented by G.W Bush. They moved operations to Mexico from Redmond, WA almost overnight. Lots of people lost their jobs.
This is so sad, and makes me angry. Go Trump.
Union, huh?
Well, we’re HOPING Trump moves aggressively to impose punitive fees/taxes/tariffs on businesses saying ‘F*** YOU’ to their AMERICAN employees AND AMERICA IN GENERAL!
Great Song we used to sing: .... I love Frito corn chips, I love them I do. I love Frito corn chips, I TAKE THEM FROM YOU.
...and our jobs.
