Wikipedia says Sanders, “was active in the Civil Rights Movement as a student organizer for the Congress of Racial Equality and the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee.” Among other things.

I know he was arrested in Chicago in the early 60s protesting school segregation. I think he was also at MLKs “I have a dream” speech.
