Skip to comments.WaPo: The utter ugliness of Donald Trump’s campaign should scare us all

THE STUNNINGLY handy wins by two anti-establishment candidates in the New Hampshire primary Tuesday are prompting conversation about similarities between New York businessman Donald Trump, the Republican victor, and Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, the socialist victor on the Democratic side. The similarities are important - but the differences are more so.
Both have positioned themselves as outsiders appealing to voters who believe the system, and the leaders of the two major parties, have failed them. The grievances they speak to are real: a sense that the economy has left too many people behind, that globalization and technological change are helping the few while stranding the many.
Both Mr. Trump and Mr. Sanders offer convenient scapegoats and simple-sounding solutions. For Mr. Sanders, the "greed" of the "billionaire class" has rigged the system against working people. Tax the 1 percent, and everyone else can have free college and free health care. Political obstacles can be swept away by a "political revolution." America's enemies will be fought by a mythical Sunni Muslim coalition. The villains for Mr. Trump are "stupid" people running the government who allow foreigners to take advantage of the United States. The solution - well, his solution - is to elect Mr. Trump.
We think both men are dangerously if seductively wrong in their facile diagnoses and prescriptions. But Mr. Sanders's platform is at least well-meaning.

WaPo: It is well-meaning to promise people things that can't possibly be delivered and will bankrupt the government in the process ... it is ugly and scary to attempt to rein in an abusive and out-of-control government.
What a stupid post.
The utter desperation and mewling of WAPO made me smile, for their suffering brings me joy!
The media couldn’t force Trump out by lying about what he was saying, so NOW it is trying to shame the voters.
Interesting play, Washington COMpost, but I think most people are on to your game: denigrate anything that reeks of conservatism. If one ploy doesn’t work, you try another.
The law of diminishing returns may have reached the breaking point for this method. Experience shows YOUR candidates have betrayed the citizenry. Many have stopped listening to the lies you print, broadcast, publish.
Why did you post it?
The news cycle starts again.
I love it that their popularity is making so many wet their pants.
Sleazy politicians no more.
The Washington Compost..
Ooh, scaaaaary. Liberal faggots.
“Why did you post it?”
It’s always good to be up on what the Democratic faction of the DemocraticRepublican Party is pushing.
I find you lack of faith disturbing.
Why did you post it?
My speculation would be that this article was posted in order to expose the Washington Post's shallow "analysis" for what it is: abject Establishment propaganda.
And also, to hold the WaPo up as a target for the open ridicule it so richly deserves...
Trump, and Cruz too, have the right enemies in the media. But Trump is scarier to them due to the support he has.
“What a garbage article!
Why did you post it?”
We should understand the arguments and attacks of the MSM and understand what Americans are being told about conservatives and Trump supporters.
We need to be aware of what we are up against.
We need to understand what the media is saying about us.
We need to destroy the existing political powers that be. Trump has he balls to do that.
WaPo has soiled itself many times over the years. This is just one more journalistic bowel movement by the NYT wannabe.
No street cred at all.
It’s good to know what and how the enemy thinks.
