Carly Fiorina Ends Bid For Republican Presidential Nomination
National Public Radio ^ | February 10, 2016 3:12 PM ET | Scott Detrow

Carly Fiorina is exiting the Republican presidential race after a seventh-place showing in last night's New Hampshire primary.

"While I suspend my candidacy today, I will continue to travel this country and fight for those Americans who refuse to settle for the way things are and a status quo that no longer works for them," said Fiorina in a statement.

Fiorina was an unconventional candidate. Her only previous political effort had been a 10-point loss in a race for U.S. Senate in California, and her tenure at Hewlett-Packard was most notable for her being fired by the board of directors after an unsuccessful merger with Compaq.

Still, Fiorina struck a chord with many Republican voters, many of whom were especially drawn to her fierce anti-abortion viewpoints and spirited appearances on the campaign trail and in debates.

Fiorina devoted a considerable amount of time to attacking Hillary Clinton, whom she criticized for reducing her campaign to an appeal for a female president.

"How often does she talk to us about the historic nature of her candidacy?" Fiorina told NPR in January. "Every single time she's on the stump. I don't talk about that. I talk about why I'm the most qualified candidate to win this job and to do this job. Hillary Clinton cannot talk about the historic nature of her candidacy if she faces me."

Fiorina stood out in the initial "undercard" debate in August and rode a wave of attention and improved poll numbers to participate in several of the main debates.

But her momentum stalled, and not only was Fiorina relegated to several undercard debates, she was excluded altogether from ABC's Saturday night Republican debate.

She knew what our force numbers are, Ships, planes and troop counts. What fleet sails on what ocean. She knew about oil production, trade and banking.

While not a supporter of the SC decision, I don’t care much if she isn’t overly concerned about reversing a bunch of gay marriages.

You know that the MSM doesn’t consider GOP women ‘real women’ and GOP Blacks ‘real Blacks’

Whatever other pertinent knowledge Carly brings to the table, her capitulation on the bedrock institution of society is unforgivable and pernicious. Enemies without may be difficult to fight, but can be fought much more effectively than systemic infections from within. Capitulating on the culture is FAR more destructive than any enemy our military can fight.

I never got what her political appeal is. Her genitalia?

A lot of these candidates run for Vice President if they are not selling books. With Clinton running she figured she would be seen as a viable candidate for VP to narrow the gender gap. Same reason Rubio is running - to be seen as a VP candidate to make the ticket appeal to Hispanics.

“Too bad, preferred her over the several obvious RINOs in the pack.”

Same here. She is obviously very bright, principled and articulate. She would make a wonderful attack dog VP for Cruz.

Carly Fiorina....you are an extremely talented person who can contibute much great service to your country. I suggest you bury the hatchet with Donald J. Trump....so that you can serve in his administration in any number of priority cabinet postions, etc. Your outstanding experience in the private sector is most valuable and, I am certain Trump would love to work along with you in building a great America once again!!! Just a thought, Ms. Fiorina!!!

Carly definitely had some good qualities, and patriotic instincts. I hope she finds a place where she can do some good.

Chritie is meeting Trump.
Probably asking for Trump to pay off his campaign debt.
He will then endorse Trump.
Carson will be meeting with Cruz tomorrow, probably a similar situation.
It is how the game is played.

Carly is in the pocket of the Fagscists. If you support her, perhaps you are, too.

Good comeback. I never supported Carly, but because I think you are an idiot I'm gay? Wouldn't that make about 99% of the population gay?

Donation limits still apply, so a single person can’t pay off someone’s campaign debt. Trump could promote a fundraiser or appeal to his supporters or donors to give donations to Christie though. Cruz did this for Walker.

Carson’s meeting with Cruz is the one Cruz requested to discuss the Iowa situation. Carson has unfortunately said he’s staying in past South Carolina as long as donations and social media support continue. Actual votes aren’t a requirement apparently.

Yes, Cruz did this for Walker.

I expect that Trump has done so for Santorum and Huckabee, He may do so for Christie.

Cruz may do so again for Carson.

Fiorina?
Hadn’t heard yet.

Paul? Probably Cruz, but no mention of it.
A lot of his staff work for Cruz now.
Paul hasn’t endorsed Cruz, but he has gone after trump and Rubio.

As they say, politics does make strange bedfellows.

I feel kind of bad for her. She campaigned hard and was quite good in the debate format. Now that she and Christie have both suspended their campaigns, I can’t imagine that Carson will stay much longer.

Why not? He loves her face.
