Grand Old Panic as Trump blows away the establishment
Yahoo Politics ^ | 2/10 | Michael Isikoff, Daniel Klaidman, Jon Ward, Holly Bailey

The only problem? It’s hard to see how any of the other establishment Republicans get past Trump and Cruz at this point.

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who mauled Rubio in Saturday’s debate and hoped for a boost in New Hampshire as a result, isn’t even likely to try. As soon as it became clear that Christie would not finish in the top five Tuesday, despite spending more days in the Granite State, at 75, than any other candidate, the governor announced that he was heading home to “take a deep breath” and reassess his struggling campaign.

Meanwhile, even as Kasich, the man who finished second to Trump, celebrated at his victory party in Salon A of the Concord Courtyard Marriott, his advisers and supporters admitted that he faced significant challenges ahead.

“He has almost no money,” said Spencer Bachus, a former Republican congressman from Alabama who served for 16 years with Kasich. “The big money has gone to Bush, Trump is self-financed and Cruz has a lot of Texas money. John has been operating on a shoestring.”

I know a lot of people that really like Kasich. His pragmatic, common sense way of speaking really resonates with people. I don't know if this will get him some needed money and a boost in the South where Jeb is likely to do better. Sounds like Christie is going to hang it up. Carson should too.

Start your engines. What we've had so far are two great outings by Trump and one good outing by Cruz in a state that typically means nothing. Rubio's last debate just may have been his Howard Dean moment.

John Kasich has no organization and in the South and his moderate brand of Republican politics doesn’t go over well there.

Plus, he’s out of money and Jeb and Rubio are more interested in mutual destruction.

And its effectively a race between Trump and Cruz right now, with Trump having the edge.

Trump has to watch his mouth as he can be his own worst enemy. If he just stays positive and focuses on bashing the rats, he can easily gain strength and win the nomination by the end of March.

I actually think the crash-and-burn of Rubio puts Bush back in the race, at least for the time being.

For now its a 3-way:

Trump
Cruz
Bush

Like you said, Kasich is a nobody going nowhere with plenty of nothing in the South.

And I guess Crispy either has quit or he might as well. No Krispy Kreme votes in the South.

I still think Jeb is in this race and should not be forgotten.

It’s Rubio and Jeb as the last two GOPe candidates and I just have this awful feeling that they are going to hang around a while.

During their discussion about Kasich this morning, CBS News mentioned that he supports a pathway to citizenship for illegals and an increase in Medicaid.

Just another GOPe candidate.

If every RINO candidate dropped out today except Rubio, the GOPe might have had a small chance of getting back control.

But, after NH there is no way in heck Bush or Kasich will step aside until Florida.

Which hands the nomination to Trump, or if something causes Trump to stumble, Cruz.

Agree. I think the Bush Machine will crush Rubio and Kasich (if Hothead John doesn’t self destruct). Trump and Cruz will split the insurgency vote, and as the race moves into winner-take-all states, Bush believes he repeatedly will have pluralities and capture entire delegate slates. Then in the general, the base once again sits on its hands in large numbers, and we have another, even more virulent Communist occupying the White House.

I agree.

The GOPe see Cruz as a true believer, while they see Trump as a loose cannon.

The GOPe knows it has no chance of changing Cruz, while they are hoping they might be able to get control of the loose cannon, or that at a minimum the cannon might randomly hit some of the targets they would prefer it to be shooting at.

Grand Old Panic as Trump blows away the establishment

Good! It's about effing time someone did. The uniparty is a cancer we won't survive:

Parties will destroy the very engines which have lifted them to unjust dominion [the committeeman process],
Parties are destructive to the regular deliberation and action of the constituted authorities,
Parties open the door to foreign influence and corruption, thus the policy and the will of one country are subjected to the policy and will of another.
Parties serve to organize division,
will ruin public liberty,
stifles, control’s, represses,
foment occasional riots & insurrection,
kindle animosity of one part against another,
puts in the place of the delegated will of the nation the will of a party,
agitates the community with ill founded jealousies & false alarms,
works to undermine the Constitution which could not be directly overthrown,
serves to distract the public councils and enfeeble the public administration,
drives the spirit of revenge
leads to despotism."
"Parties are truly your worst enemy."
~George Washington
I should have just bolded the entire list.

George Washington was right then and, unfortunately, even more right now.

Comparing the GOPe republicans' "lesser" evil brand to the demonrats' full strength version is like comparing an unflushed stadium toilet during a game to Port-a-John after a concert.

During their discussion about Kasich this morning, CBS News mentioned that he supports a pathway to citizenship for illegals and an increase in Medicaid.

That citizenship path is a reason I would not vote for Kasich.
But I noticed last week that was put to him, and Kasich modified it to a pathway to "legal status" not citizenship.

But legal status to me, means a step closer to citizenship. -tom

Don’t fall over in a dead shock if Trump picks K-sick for VP. Ohio is a must win swing state. And K-sick is a faithful party foot soldier. He will do what he’s told and be happy to be along for the ride like Biden.

He's not even a RINO, he's a full-fledged Democrat.

Legal status” is a stepping stone to citizenship. 2 seconds after being granted legal status, the illegal aliens will sue because they were made into “2nd class citizens”, and a liberal judge will agree.

One the case gets up to SCOTUS, the 4 lib judges will obviously support citizenship, and someone will pull out the Roberts file.

Voila: Citizenship!
