Judith Benitez had gone most of her adult life without knowing how to drive.
The 35-year-old woman from Mexico who is in the U.S. illegally would ask family members for rides to pick up her children from school. Trips to the grocery store or the doctor's office were complicated.
That changed last year when Assembly Bill 60 was implemented, granting people in the country illegally the right to obtain driver's licenses in California.
"Truthfully, it was an extremely emotional time because having a [driver's] license isn't just any little thing," she said. "We feel a little more protected."

Yes, the face of one of those helpless “children” coming from South America==wonder if she got a teddy bear from Glenn Beck?
Seriously, should be posted on every immigration thread.
Such a heartwarming scene. Why do they come? Oh yes, Jeb! told us they come out of love...
Yeah. Motor voter is an evil that must be tamed.
“...and through a series of unfortunate mistakes the state of California allowed 650,000 illegal aliens to vote in the 2016 election putting Hillary Clinton in to the white house....”
Motor Voter >>> Clintonian genius!
People on here don’t believe me when I say Ronald Reagan would have zero chance of being elected California governor these days.
If you figure we have 3 times as many illegals as got iciness, we have 1.8 out of 35 mill illegals. A few years ago I read Cal spent 12 billion on benefits to illegals, I’m thinking it’s 18 or so now.
It’s nice to have their names, addresses, and photographs on file. I hope they will all be deported and barred from any legal reentry.
Under Clinton's Motor Voter, the state clerk who processes your driver's license application is required to offer to register you to vote.
In addition, under Obama's administration, the clerk is not allowed to ask your citizenship status.
Many clerks are convinced non-citizens are allowed to vote.
In turn, these non-citizens are convinced that they can legally vote, although it is a federal violation and can cost an immigrant denial of a citizenship application, denied renewal of a green card, deportation or a year in the federal pen.
The Democrats have potentially thrown every immigrant that votes for them under the proverbial bus for the sake of their votes.
This is, and probably has been, a boon to Democrats.
