A former Mexican president had some tough words when asked about GOP candidate Donald Trump's much-touted plan to build a border wall that he says will be paid for by Mexico.
"We are not going to pay any single cent for such a stupid wall! And it's going to be completely useless," said former Mexican president Felipe Calderón when asked about this at the AmCham Egypt for Business Conference on Sunday.
Calderón told CNBC's Hadley Gamble his country will not be funding the construction of the wall, also adding that while Trump blames Mexican migration for the majority of illegal immigration into the U.S., the net migration between the countries has flipped. According to a Pew Research report in November, more Mexicans were emigrating from the U.S. than entering.

Giving them tens of millions earned here, more likely...
Not sure when America decided to kick it’s own ass, but this is getting ridiculous.
I think the 971 nillion in foreign aid we give to Mexico would be a good start in expenses to build the wall.
Yeh and you don’t hear the current Mexican President saying jack about it. They know the party is almost over. LOL!

It’s not so difficult when money and money transfers are electronic, and the IRS can seize or tap into it whenever they wish. They have no qualms about seizing money electronically from US citizens; they can tax the outflow to Mexico (or anywhere else) just as easily.
WOW!
You have revealed the way to get democrats to agree to build a border wall.
Just tell them that it is a wall to keep conservatives and other patriots penned up.
In 2015, Mexico received 1 billion dollars from the United States in aid. In 2016, this number will probably grow. In 2017, Mexico will build us a wall to our specifications and with our engineers and contractors doing the work. The amount of aid they receive in 2017 and the few years that follow, will be in accordance with the budget of the wall. Why is this so hard for everyone to understand?
The wall will be built. Just stop giving the freebies to illegals. That would pay for the wall in itself. And yes add a 15 percent transaction fee to all transactions from U.S. to Mexico. Add a 40 percent tariff for all goods coming into the United States from Mexico. There are numerous ways to get this wall paid for by Mexico.
10%? How about just enforcing the current laws on the books which takes all of illegal alien ill gotten gains then fines those that gave it to them?
When the corrupt President of Mexico says something is stupid then it must be a good idea.
Trump should allow them to finance it over time.
But they must pay.
Except that President Trump also wants to tariff those jobs out of existence.
“According to a Pew Research report in November, more Mexicans were emigrating from the U.S. than entering.”
Note how the sentence can be understood as the comparison of legal immigration vs. emigration, without taking into account the net effect of illegal immigration at all. I’m going to look at the data.
Put a tariff on imports and it's American consumers paying for the wall and not Mexico.
That's much more "fair" than the 10% others are mentioning. US taxpayers take home less than 50% of their gross. Illegals who currently work for cash take home 100% of their earnings.
Not really. Consumers are free to make buying choices whether to buy or not to buy. The tariff is not mandatory.
But they are willing to overpay for a door in the wall. They may even pay enough extra for the door to cover the rest of the costs of the wall.
"Measuring migration flows between Mexico and the U.S. is challenging because there are no official counts of how many Mexican immigrants enter and leave the U.S. each year. This report uses the best available government data from both countries to estimate the size of these flows. The Mexican data sources â a national household survey, and two national censuses â asked comparable questions about household membersâ migration to and from Mexico over the five years previous to each survey or census date. In addition, estimates of Mexican migration to the U.S. come from U.S. Census Bureau data, adjusted for undercount, on the number of Mexican immigrants who live in the U.S. (See text box below for more details.)"
A rail line? Public works project ? Eminent Domain ??? LOL !!!
The way I understand it 1 out of 5 Mexicans live in the USA.
