World War III inches closer as Turkey says it may enter Syrian conflict
Washington Times ^ | 2/7/16 | Todd Wood

The reason Russia is possibly building a new airbase on the Turkish border inside Syria became clearer today as Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan hinted Turkey could enter the war on the side of the anti-Assad forces who Russia has been primarily targeting. The Syrian government made major gains against the Sunni opposition in recent weeks as the Syrian city of Aleppo looked to fall from the opposition’s control. Turkey has repeatedly urged the American-led coalition against ISIS to do more to help the anti-Assad forces. “We don’t want to fall into the same mistake in Syria as in Iraq,” Mr. Erdogan said,

If Turkey goes in, it does not look like the US or NATO will be behind them.

It looks more like the US is supporting the YPG Kurds, who have crossed Turkey’s “red line”, going West of the Euphrates River, and are massing to assault Manbij the so-called “Little London” of ISIS, where they have many of their Western recruits.

Their are recent reports of the US delivering arms and ammo to the YPG for this operation, and just today I read of US special operators arriving in Kobane to participate in the Manbij assault.

I am not sure if they are waiting for the Western offense to consolidate Azaz and Tal Rifat, before launching from the East, if Politicians were negotiating, or if they are are just waiting till they have everything ready.

But as of today, it still looks like the US is leaning forward to support a Kurdish attack on ISIS soon, despite Turkish threats to intervene.

One out of 12 ain’t bad. But the Turks, French and Brits could not have done it without the Sardinians. And Mother Russia has it back now...

Russia recently moved a large number of aircraft into Erebuni (Armenia) . No idea what he has planned...if anything.

That’s right. The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) or the UN, with guns.

Formed in 1949 with the signing of the Washington Treaty, NATO is a security alliance of 28 countries from North America and Europe. NATO’s fundamental goal is to safeguard the Allies’ freedom and security by political and military means. ....
Article 5 of the Washington Treaty — that an attack against one Ally is an attack against all — is at the core of the Alliance, a promise of collective *defense*.

We’ve had out problems but the Russians haven’t been waging asymmetric war against us since we pushed Iraq out of Kuwait, notably since the first Twin Towers attack.

“Let the Turks have it out with the Russians.”

But then NATO gets sucked in. We’re screwed.

Sadly most of the idiots in the GOP (Ryan, McCain, Graham, etc) will want to jump in this war and fight the Russians. Crazy.

World War III inches closer as Turkey says it may enter Syrian conflict

Now, if we can just get Iran, Kuwait, ISIS, Yeman, Afghanistan and the soddies involved....what's wrong with that?

What will NATO do? I don’t think they are obligated to act on Turkey’s behalf if Turkey jumps into a war.

You need to re-read Scripture. The Antichrist is indeed a person.

I had heard that Russia had moved 4 to 6 more aircraft to Armenia about a month ago, roughly doubling the aircraft that they had stationed there.

Russia has rattled a lot of sabers at Turkey since they shot down that Russian jet in November - brandishing weapons on ships sailing through Istanbul, laying down punishing economic sanctions, publicizing Erdogan’s corruption in profiting from oil smuggled from Syria and Iraq, alluding to the possibility of supporting a Kurdish uprising within Turkey, and increasing military forces around Turkey (such as more jets in Armenia, and the S-400 air defense system in Northern Syria).

I think that Turkey knows that if they go head to head with the Russians, they will get hit from many angles at once. The Kurds have never had such deterrence against Turkish attacks before.

The Turkish military must be chewing their teeth in frustration at the results of Erdogan’s adventures.
