PETERBOROUGH, N.H.-Ted Cruz on Sunday said he opposes requiring women to register for a potential draft, breaking with Marco Rubio, Jeb Bush and Chris Christie, all of whom indicated support for opening up the Selective Service to women during Saturday night's debate.
"I have to admit, as I was sitting there listening to that conversation, my reaction was, 'Are you guys nuts?'" Cruz said Sunday, speaking at a town hall here. "Listen, we have had enough with political correctness, especially in the military. Political correctness is dangerous. And the idea that we would draft our daughters to forcibly bring them into the military and put them in close combat, I think is wrong, it is immoral, and if I am president, we ain't doing it."
To applause, Cruz went on to note that he is a father to two daughters, and he wants them to follow their dreams.
"But the idea that their government would forcibly put them in a foxhole with a 220-pound psychopath trying to kill them doesn't make any sense at all," he said.
The previous night, at the presidential debate, Rubio said he had no problem with women in combat, and added, "I do believe Selective Service should be opened up for both men and women in the case a draft is ever instituted."
Bush made a similar argument but stressed that there is no draft and he is not calling for reinstating one.
Christie was less explicit, but more broadly indicated openness to allowing women to register for the Selective Service.
It is not about revenge. That is a false charge. It is about consistency. It is about teaching. Revenge would be killing for the thrill of it. This is about getting them to see the error of their ways by experiencing the consequences of it. God does that all the time to us. I think it is a right thing, not a wrong thing, so long as it is not vengeance. And it is not. You can claim it is to save your own loved ones, but that does not make it so. One person’s son is as important and valuable as another person’s daughter. If the law says there is no difference to be distinguished between men and women in every way then let them have their desires. Be careful what you wish for.
I’m surprised that on this site I’m seeing comments to the contrary. Sometimes in think in the last few months this site has been taken over by Cruz haters, why?
“I donât think that men in the military really want a bunch of women with them on the battlefield”
Plenty of things to do outside of combat.
Is that what happened after all the wars we’ve been in?
In terms of survival of the human species... the answer may be yes.
You invoke Trump's name in a thread about Cruz opposing registering women for the draft so perhaps you can tell us where Trump stands on the issue.?
Importantly, what does Trump's several wives think about it?
Then end the draft for all Americans. Simple solution.
They are doing it now.
At some time recently, the tipping point was reached.
I wonder the same thing.. What is going on here?
“If you want my son and grandson then my granddaughter should go to.”
Watch the Super Bowl tonight. There will not be any women players on the field.
Do you know why?
We’re not DRAFTING WOMEN. The idea is, they should register for Selective Service just like men do, or shut up about demanding so-called “equal rights”, because they refuse equal responsibilities.
Take two random 18 year olds, one boy, one girl.
The boy cannot get student aid, apply for a Federal Job, or get a Security Clearance if he hasn’t filled out and sent in a Selective Service System postcard.
The girl ? No sanctions whatsoever. . .
THAT is the point. . .
“I think they should get the responsibilities of their claim that there is no difference between men and women. If it hurts to mix them, then have women only combat troops. Whatever. Just drag their feminist butts to those front lines.”
Women should not be in combat. Hurts military cohesiveness, and makes men and women to be the same, which they are definitely not. As support for troops, non-combat roles, fine. In combat, not fine. The feminazi’s do not speak for all women by a long-shot.
However, I want this threat to women to be drafted just like the men are, and the fact that they could very well end up in combat to hang out there for a little while longer. Watch how many women decide not to sign up to join the military. Will get the military back towards what it should always have been, primarily fighting MEN, our heroes, our warriors, our knights in shining armour.
Women in support roles, fine. Women in combat, not fine. All women will fight if backed to the wall, and in particular in defense of their children, their cubs. That is now nature (and God of course) intends it. Leave it at that, just like it always has been. And leave the hand to hand to men, as it always has been, before PC reared its ugly head. One shouldn’t screw around with the natural order of things. Our enemies don’t.
Seriously? Who do you think will defend the Trans-Texas Corridor? And enforce the confiscation of our vitamin supplemements?
Obviously. It’s also nuts to introduce a bill to require them to register for the draft as some Republicans have done. Of course they are just trying to force the issue of women in combat positions but it’s still nuts.
“Next time, just type âderpâ and save yourself some effort.”
Now thats fuuny!
Race baiting woman hater? FR reaches new depths.

Uh-oh. Another card being played from the same deck that the victim card came from.
Forcing men to sacrifice for women is a little like forcing the rich to fund things for the poor. In the eyes of God it only counts as a credit if they do it willingly. So don’t give me the unChristian excuse. You can sacrifice for women. Do you have the right to force another man to sacrifice his life for women?
When our culture acknowledged the differences between men and women then it made sense. That is no longer the case.
Life is valuable. But we are all going to die one day. I do not see it as any more tragic for a woman to give her life for others than for a man to do it. At the same time, in a world where the male/female roles are based on a Judeo/Christian ethic, it makes sense for men to be protective of women. It is not because women are more valuable, or that it is somehow more tragic for a woman to sacrifice her life for others. It is just that a woman’s sacrifice was seen in the area of having and raising children and caring for her husband and in the absence of a husband, in caring for others. Women have gone MIA in that area of sacrifice. They want to be the same as men. So give them what they wish for. It is the fastest road to redeeming the issue — which is the whole point. Revenge is not the point. Justice, truth, fairness, redemption are the points.
