Hillary Clinton said that banning fossil fuel extraction on public lands is a 'done deal,' the Hill reported.
After Thursday night's Democratic debate in New Hampshire, an activist with the green group 350 Action asked Clinton whether she would support banning hydraulic fracturing if she were elected.
While Clinton said the president doesn't have the authority to do that, she did say that supporting a ban on fossil fuel extraction on public lands was a done deal.
"President Obama's Interior Department in January said it would halt new leases for coal mining on federal land while it figures out how to account for climate change-related costs associated with burning coal," states the article. "Obama and Clinton, however, have so far resisted calls to ban all fossil fuel extraction on federal land."
"Bernie Sanders, Clinton's opponent in the Democratic presidential primary, introduced a bill last fall to do just that, a cause supported by an environmentalist movement to 'keep it in the ground,'" the article states.
Yikes!
This is incredibly stupid and short-sighted.
We finally have OPEC and the Arabs on the run, and instead of defeating them in detail, she proposes to let them back into a position of power.
Like it or not, petroleum is going to be our energy source for quite a while.
Trump would negotiate a deal which kept the middle east stable, but poor, no longer a threat and which was enforceable by having US bases, that they paid for, in the middle east.
Clinton wants to surrender.
Clinton will be rewarded by OPEC and the stupid vote.
Hillary Clinton straight to Guantanamo - 25 yrs
Exactly. Because once again we see the Liberals talk in dishonest euphemisms. Public lands really mean federal government controlled property. There is no public input. It is an apparatus of the increasingly powerful central federal government which liberals seek to control for their own agenda purposes.
Only people that helps is the Hause of Saud in Arabia and would doom the USA to 100 years of Arab control.
In the west, this bloated federal gub mint owns about 85 percent of all land and the a holes in said gub mint are always trying to take more from private lands.
Way past time to reign in this worthless pain in the ass federal gubmint.
You beat me to it, your reply is exactly what I was thinking. Public lands belong to the public, those that pay taxes, those the government should be supporting.
Unfortunately, die hard lefty socialists think the precise exact opposite and will always believe the government is the higher entity with the people completely disposable and that any money the peons have left after taxes is really a gift from the government.
The underlying problem here is obvious: The federal government has taken far too much state land and set is aside so that it cannot be used by those who live there.
This has been one of the curses of “progressivism” that has tormented our country for over a hundred years, and gets worse with each president of either party.
But the way to stop this problem is with a State Lands Restoration Act, which gives the bulk of the land back to the states, outside of military and Indian reservations.
An essential part of doing so is a legal description that states are “competent authorities” to the management of their lands, *as well as* the wildlife that dwells within.
This would give liberals all over the US “dog strokes”, because it would devastate the radical environmentalist movement, strip the federal government of enormous amounts of illegitimate power, restore resources to the use of the states, and get them back into production.
It would be devastating to the socialists and one-world government types, as well as those tyrannical imbeciles at the United Nations.
she and all libs are batshit crazy
To add a little humor to the thread,..
A man gave 12 reasons why he voted Democrat, apparently in reference to the 2012 election. Here they are:
1. I voted Democratic because I love the fact that I can now marry whatever I want. I now may marry my Labrador.
2. I voted Democratic because I believe oil companiesââ¬â¢ profits of 4 percent on a gallon of gas are obscene but the government taxing the same gallon of gas at 15 percent isnââ¬â¢t.
3. I voted Democratic because I believe the government will do a better job of spending the money I earn than I would.
4. I voted Democratic because freedom of speech is fine as long as I agree with what is said and nobody else is offended by it.
5. I voted Democratic because Iââ¬â¢m way too irresponsible to own a gun and I know that my local police are all I need to protect me from murderers and thieves.
6. I voted Democratic because I believe that people who canââ¬â¢t tell us if it will rain on Friday can tell us that the polar ice caps will melt away in 10 years if I donââ¬â¢t start driving a Prius.
7. I voted Democratic because Iââ¬â¢m not concerned about millions of babies being aborted so long as we keep all death row inmates alive.
8. I voted Democratic because I think illegal aliens have a right to free health care, education and Social Security benefits, and we should take away the Social Security from those who paid into it.
. I voted Democratic because I believe that businesses should not be allowed to make profits for themselves. They need to break even and give the rest away to the government for redistribution as the Democrats see fit.
10. I voted Democratic because I believe liberal judges need to rewrite the Constitution every few days to suit some fringe kooks who would never get their agendas past the voters.
11. I voted Democratic because I think that itââ¬â¢s better to pay billions for their oil to people who hate us but not drill our own because it might upset some endangered beetle, spotted owl, gopher or fish.
12. I voted Democratic because my head is so firmly misplaced toward the south end of my body, itââ¬â¢s unlikely that Iââ¬â¢ll ever have another point of view.
The manââ¬â¢s conclusion was probably the best part of the whole letter: ââ¬ÅNo trees, Spotted Owls or Red Cock-headed Woodpeckers were harmed in the sending of this message.ââ¬Â
Although entertaining, itââ¬â¢s also quite depressing because most of these points actually illustrative of how many Democrats think ââ¬â if thatââ¬â¢s the right word ââ¬â when deciding how to vote.
Well!!! It’s a done deal ‘till we kick her and Obama’s ass to hell out!!!
I’m drinking YOUR milkshake!
Not just the Saudis. When Bill was in office, remember the Indonesian campaign finance scandal? Do you recall WHY they were throwing illegal money at him, and fleeing the country instead of testifying? In the 90s, two massive deposits of extra-clean coal (low sulfur with high BTU) were found... one in Indonesia, and one in southern Utah. After the illegal money poured into Clinton's coffers, the land in Utah quickly and magically became "National Parkland" and off-limits to exploration. So much for caring about cleaner air.
EXACTLY. Every single state that has land being controlled by the Feds needs to join a class action lawsuit to get those lands back into the control of the individual states.
I’d imagine it would be a private company extracting the fossil fuels from the public lands.
Forget a class action lawsuit. It's not some court's responsibility to decide one way or another. It's already been decided by the Framers of The Constitution.
Article 1, Section 8, Clause 17 reads thus:
To exercise exclusive Legislation in all Cases whatsoever, over such District (not exceeding ten Miles square) as may, by Cession of Particular States, and the Acceptance of Congress, become the Seat of the Government of the United States, and to exercise like Authority over all Places purchased by the Consent of the Legislature of the State in which the Same shall be, for the Erection of Forts, Magazines, Arsenals, dock-Yards, and other needful Buildings;--
This is a wordy way of saying the federal government has no business owning or managing any property outside the ten square miles that make up Washington, D.C., and forts and ports.
KrisAnne Hall explains it a lot better than I can...
The fact the lands are PUBLIC means they are for the benefit of all the public. The people who are extracting fossil fuels on these lands are PRIVATE business people who pay themselves, not the PUBLIC from the profits of selling these fossil fuels. Only small fees are paid for the privilege of using up the resources that belong to us all for the benefit of a few.
Yeah, I always thought that too. The government has no business owning land. They should sell it all off (to Americans) and put it towards the national debt.
