I agree with you, but I don’t believe Trump is naive - I think he’s intentionally taking that position to appeal more to the center / left.

Trump is thinking past the primaries. It is a little too out there to say to the general public that Obama wants to destroy the country. We know that, but the general population may not realize that. It is far safer and effective to say that he is incompetent. The cross-over vote will go with that without hesitation. I think that is why Trump goes that route regarding Obama.
