I started out for Cruz.

I switched to Trump when it became clear he, all by himself, had changed the entire nature of this year’s election. NO ONE ELSE could have done what he did, and is continuing to do.

When I switched to Trump, Cruz remained my second choice.

Neither of them are perfect and I can live with that.

BUT:

Our nation faces an existential threat unlike any we have ever faced before, and at least as dangerous. It may already be too late to save her. If there is to be ANY hope, it will require repentance and a return to our Christian roots.

That argues in favor of a devout candidate. On the surface that might argue in favor of Cruz. But Cruz’s personal ethics are under a huge cloud. Personally, I do not believe a candidate who hides shameless personal ethics (to put it mildly) behind the mantle of Jesus Christ is someone God would pick to lead us from the wilderness.

In my opinion, better the known sinner who may have seen the light than the quasi-secret sinner who denies his sin and hides behind false piety. Two thousand years ago men like that were called “Pharisees”.

There is another, equally powerful, issue involved. The United States is NOT a theocracy, and I hope it never will be.

There is not a single person alive today whose theology and life is perfect, nor will there be until Jesus Christ returns. Until that day, I will not submit to ANYONE who tells me what to believe, or claims to be a better Christian than I am. Nor will I automatically support someone simply because they claim to be a better Christian than their opponent. Only God can answer that question.

Ditto to dat!!
Trump to break the pathway and Cruz to clean out the pathway. Will the men be able to mend fences in order to get it done? That is the question...among a few other questions.

You go there, to really make a difference, and you’re run into brick wall after brick wall after brick wall. And I don’t think Rubio wants to stay there 30 years to break through the wall to get a committee chairmanship or whatever.

-------

None of these so called big govt conservatives want to leave govt and work in the private sector. Or if they do it's for lobbyist kind of positions. Govt job for me but not for thee.

How long are limited govt conservatives going to keep electing lifetime govt employees. Is not the ideal a business man conservative Republican coming to office working for a term or two in public service and leaving after? Cognitive dissonance.

Here is an excerpt of a question I recently asked on FR, that received no answers:

“FR is a very conservative site. Why are so many here in favor of voting for Trump first, before even giving Cruz, our staunchest conservative, a chance to succeed or fail on his own? I don’t get that.”

An earnest question looking for a thoughtful answer.

i am not a fan of Trumps tweets. However, as soon as Trump leaves the scene, I hope he does not, Cruz and Rubio will go back to being the nice establishment guys they are. Yes, they will say things from time to time but they are bought and well paid for the be establishment, Club for Growth would not be giving there quarters of a million to Cruz unless they knew he would support amnesty.

I’m about ready to turn off talk radio because I know who I’m going to vote for, I know who I will never vote for, I’m afraid who the media will push the American people to vote for, and I’m afraid of eight years of Hillary Clinton in the White House. Bottom line, we have to pick a candidate who can attract enough votes to beat her. Unless all this doesn’t matter anyway if you believe that the system is rigged.

Cruz to try to take down Trump, then turn on Cruz, who they actually hate more.

I think you are right, but you aren't filtering in the fact that Cruz has already BEAT the GOPe and elite media once in Texas, and he's using that experience on a national scale now.

They threw everything but the kitchen sink at him and swore that he could never beat Dewhurst........and yet it was Cruz who went to Washington....and his election led to a movement still determined to rid Texas of the rest of their Rinos

He's a scrapper, and has more American support behind him than the media will EVER tell you......so I wouldn't throw in the towel for him til the last vote drops.

I get no answers - at best I get a question to my question - a sign there are no answers.

We are both getting long in the tooth. I would like to have a conservative to vote for once before I move on. Anybody is better than Hillary Zedong or Bernie Stalin but it would sure be nice to vote for a conservative who plays to win once more.

LiberalLu, you got a lotta gall to post on a JR thread or even be on FR. I saw you over at ConsistentConservative and the things you said about Jim there before it was deleted or relocated. Jim is exercising an enormous amount of grace letting you people stay here.

Sometimes the only person you can turn to that can pull a nation out of a disaster is flawed....

"Do not hesitate to raise up a flawed man if circumstances require it" .. Winston Churchill --

Churchill was called many things...stable was not one of them... he was that flawed man that was required.

We need a runaway bulldozer.. not a seasoned, reasonable politician.

Trump is the bulldozer who can win.

If I could choose the next president I'd choose Cruz... but he won't win if he's the nominee.
