The next president could conceivably appoint four Justices to the U.S. Supreme Court.
In a CBS News report from January, it was pointed out that the next president of the United States could conceivably appoint as many as four Justices to the Supreme Court of the United States.
If evangelical Christians could elect someone to the presidency with that power, they could effectively scale back the two major hot-button issues theyâve lost on: legalization of abortion and legalization of same-sex marriage.
But to do so, they would need to nominate someone electable â someone sympathetic to these causes in the background, but who runs on issues that resonate more closely to what matters most among the general population.
Republicans â and Democrats, too, for that matter â can pick the candidate with which they most agree, but unless that person can sway enough of the independent vote, they will lose in November, period.
Looking at 2008 and 2012 and the rise of Barack Obama, the most anti-religious of modern (20th Century and beyond) presidents, itâs clear the majority is no longer of the evangelical Christian persuasion.
For the most part, independent votersâ views can be summed up as, âStay out of my wallet, and stay out of my bedroom.â
In other words, they donât think the government should spend more than it takes in, and they donât think that government should be in the business of telling people how to live their lives provided that one personâs decisions do not encroach on the safety or inalienable rights of another.
Ted Cruz wears his beliefs on his sleeve, and appears to be earnest in those convictions, and that creeps out enough of the independent vote to ensure he would have zero chance against a Clinton or Sanders.
While it may be difficult to hold oneâs nose and vote for a Trump, the alternative is that Hillary or Bernie wins the presidency and appoints a U.S. Supreme Court that is far more liberal than anything evangelical Christians have seen.
So yes, evangelicals, you gave Ted Cruz a victory in Iowa, and made him the true frontrunner for the GOP nomination. But as the old saying goes, âbe careful what you wish for, you just might get it.â
You think your religious liberty is in danger now? Just wait until Hillary or Bernie wins the White House; then you can see where Mondayâs Ted Cruz victory got you.
Sounds like Carson is being advised by DT.
CNN airs DT rally
CNN reports Carson going to FL
Tweets rumor starts with Cruz and Rubio teams
2 hour nap later Carson says he is not quitting.
Cruz wins Iowa, but DT and Carson win the uproar.
DT will also sue.
I was about to type a very close approximation of what you posted. Remember, “Hope really is a strategy...” Trump thinks his liberal sister would make a great Supreme Court justice.
I agree except I doubt the party bosses will select Bush or Christie because deep in their hearts they probably still do want someone with a chance of getting elected. I think they’ll come up with a ( more electable) clone candidate - someone we haven’t heard of yet. Same for the D party bosses, incidentally, tho they may still go with Bernie the Red ?
I believe Cruz is a sincere, devout Christian, and that is a very good thing in a president. I also believe Cruz is a sincere conservative, based on principles and not just individual preferences on issues.
As far as I can tell, his decisions as president would likely be guided by his Christian beliefs and by his profound reverence for the Constitution, and both are good things. As far as I can tell, his Supreme Court nominations would most likely be hands-on and guided by reverence for the literal words of the Constitution over any other consideration. That is one of the strongest reasons why I support Cruz as my first choice.
I could be wrong on one or more points, and I have been very wrong in the past (Chief Justice Roberts comes to mind). Cruz is not a perfect person, but none of us are. Still, that is my view based on a great deal of study.
Pro-child killing pro-gay lifestyle author....thank you for worthless input.
Sort of like Sarah Palin probably felt when she was used for the umpteenth time over silly nothing’s. “Not this sh!t again.”
The are also rumors that Rubio will drop out and throw his support to Bush. How does that feel?
Ridiculous
Cruz is indeed unelectable. Absolutely no chance. But increasingly, so is the unhinged Trump. I expect Trump to continue to hurt himself with utter stupidity, like today’s needless outbursts, and then bitterly run as independent and sink Cruz or Rubio. Bill got elected because of one bitter billionaire, and Hill will get elected because of another. Weep for our nation.
Recent polls show Cruz beating Her Majesty.
If you choose a candidate for “electability”, you lose.
made him the true frontrunner for the GOP nomination...
Front runner my arse!
William Buckley said he always voted for the most conservative choice on the ballot. That seems the best way for evangelicals to hold a place at the table.
Ted Cruz: Nah, I'm covered. ;)
Creepy Aric sounds threatening.
In other words, a chameleon. Or at least someone who knows enough to leave his Bible at home. Right?
If conservative Ted Cruz is unelectable--a candidate who, unlike RINOs Romney and McCain, gives millions of so-called "evangelicals" reason to vote again--well that's good to know.
Because, if Ted Cruz is unelectable, that means we're satisfied with liberals and RINOs. In that case, the question isn't whether the nation will collapse. It's a question of when. I'll take sooner rather than later. Bring it on.
Then, after enough weeping and gnashing of teeth, they'll beg for the conservative revolution.
So, nominate the true conservative. Give the so-called "evangelicals" reason to vote. Let the chips fall where they may. The sooner, the better.
So, to win, evangelicals have to elect a serial adulterer strip-club casino creator whose minions attack someone for thanking God for his victory. Gotcha. I’m all for forgiveness, but Trump says God is cool with his serial adulteries.
Ah, yes. “They” are troubled by Cruz’s evangelical roots. Not the author mind you.
So evangelicals should vote for someone who is NOT evangelical in order to get supreme court nominees that are a little better though not evangelical.
Right now there are nine supreme court justices. Not a single one is an evangelical Christian. Not one.
So I am supposed to believe not supporting the most conservative candidate who happens to be an evangelical Christian will help fix that?
How about this? All of the milquetoast moderates and CINOs can start supporting evangelical Christian candidates and quit taking our votes for granted OR you can live with electing Hillary or Bernie.
That whole "electable" thing is really getting irritating. It's about as bad as "I'm not electing a pope".
How in the world is Hillary "electable"?
I know evangelicals who will never vote, by the way.
According to Trump, Carson is a psycho. Cruz is just nasty and nobody likes him. Or did that change today?
I will “hold my nose” for Trump IF he wins the nomination but not one second before.
This article is garbage, assumes the meme that he’s super electable and Cruz is trash that Hillary or BERNIE will easily KO. Garbage.
