Donald Trump normally projects the image of a guy with only one gear: warp drive. But on today's Morning Joe, Trump made an interesting admission, saying that in Iowa, "I sort of went through the motions a little bit." According to Trump, he went less than flat-out in the Hawkeye State because he had been told he couldn't win, until a poll at the very end of the campaign indicated that he could.
Note: there was an odd moment at the very beginning of the phone interview. When Mika Brzezinski began by asking "let's talk about Iowa. What happened?" there was an awkward pause on Trump's end. "O-k-a-a-a-y," he eventually responded. The pause was so strange that Joe Scarborough asked "can you hear us?" Trump said he could hear fine, and the interview went on from there. So . . . was Trump distracted, or might he have been annoyed by Mika's entirely reasonable opening question focusing on his second-place finish in Iowa?

Had he won we’d have not heard the end of it. As it was, he should realize that it’s only the fact that the field is so crowded that’s allowed him to appear substantial. Most conservatives clearly don’t want him. Polls showed that twice as many “very conservative” voters in Iowa were for Cruz. Polls also show Trump is the least like candidate in any party! That’s amazing considering that Hillary is part of that competition. How people believe he’s the best hope of conservatism is beyond me.
I am still not sure why winning in Iowa is such a big deal. The winners seldom go on to win the nomination. Trump still is in the driver's seat in this primary, as far as I am concerned. Cruz will do well too. Rubio, not so sure about. The rest are just excess baggage from now on.
But come late summer, unless the Republicans do something stupid, like defaulting to Yeb Bush, the general election is ours to win.
If I wanted someone for president who just “goes through the motions” then I’d vote for Rand Paul or Ben Carson. If he’s not serious about it then Trump should get out.

Your comments are noise. The campaigns all know how to contact each other by telephone, cellphone, e-mail, texting, and Twitter in only minutes. The Cruz campaign has no credible eason whatsoever for not contacting the Carson campaign in minutes if they actually believed what they claimed. The fact that Cruz sent out this message without contacting Carson is conclusive evidence the theft of the votes was a deliberate effort to steal those votes.

I swear some of you have such a cartoonish view of Christians, it borders on something the left would come up with.

Where were lots of media reports of Cruz precinct captains telling Carson voters that Carson was out after Iowa, big announcement next week.

Cruz got 1/3 of the evangelical vote while Trump got 1/5.

Stop with the BS. Cruz didn’t issue a false story or lie.
CNN reported that Carson was leaving Iowa and not going to NH or SC, but to his home in FL. Sen. King and staffers for Cruz just passed that info along (after the caucus had begun). ......CNN later reported Carson was not dropping out and that message was not passed on by Cruz staffers.
Cruz haters here on FR really amaze me when they jump on any hint of something that may disparaging against him.

Cruz will have a hard time down here in SC where Trump is very popular,, I assume it’s the same in Georgia
My thoughts were more like, “Which Apprentice episode relates to Iowa”
Trump is a decision maker, often relying upon advice from trusted advisors or family, but he does not jump onto any new venture with all his gear and clothes on, he is way smarter than that, he will let another company bid, win, fail by problems and then Trump will come in, take over, finish better, cheaper and faster.
Thats his strategy, i believe its workable even for elections.
We got Obama because “committed Christians” (aka boneheaded people) would not vote for a Mormon. Now we’re going to get Hillary, I guess.

Those evangelicals showed up in droves for Elmer Cruz but sat on their hands while Obama was elected twice.
Cruz or his CM never bothered to call Carson or any of his people to verify which could have done in less than 2 minutes.. so don’t believe any of lame excuses from the Cruzers.. they were obligated honorably to check .. they didn’t and they weren’t.. end of story
Reality was hardly any $ spent and reported over and over that he had no ground game there. Seems real to me.
Carson’s supporters WILL NOT forget this in NH, or other states moving forward!
