Ted Cruz apologized to Dr. Ben Carson on Tuesday after the Texas senator's campaign was accused of trying to sabotage his opponent's chances in the Iowa caucuses.
Cruz's campaign blasted out a report Monday night that suggested Carson was going home to Florida instead of campaigning after the Iowa caucuses - something Cruz said Tuesday is "fair game" - but admitted that the campaign should have corrected that report when it became clear Carson wasn't dropping out of the race. He was just going home to get "fresh clothes."

These guys are further proof why the Republican Party is called “The Stupid Party.”
I’m convinced at this point the Carson camp is trying to squeeze all they can out of this as their excuse to their donors for Carson’s poor performance in Iowa. The alternative is to admit to to their donors that his campaign is doing terribly.
Jake Tapper said that CNN’s report that Carson would not go to NH and SC came directly from Carson. If he didn’t want that reported he should not have spoken to CNN about it. If anybody stole from Carson it was CNN, but I don’t think they can be blamed for reporting what Carson had told them directly.
As one of the IA caucus-goers here said, it seems like Carson’s supporters knew his campaign was suspended to deal with the car accident that took the life of one of their workers, and the campaign had never really started up again. His NH workers had all quit to join the Cruz campaign. His campaign website has no campaign events listed. He had told Hannity that if he didn’t win the first couple primaries he would drop out, and he wasn’t doing anything necessary to win either one. The writing was pretty much on the wall even without CNN’s report, but Carson talking to CNN so they could make this 11th-hour suggested that he didn’t mind his supporters knowing that he wouldn’t be campaigning for the primaries he said he needed to win in order to stay in the race.
Do you have evidence that their information is inaccurate?
The city wanted to condemn the property and claim eminent domain so they could give it to Trump. The woman lived in the house for decades longer without being condemned, quarantined, etc. The court ruled that it couldn’t be used for eminent domain because the city was going to give it to Trump for LIMITLESS gain.
The city had no reason to condemn the property. They wanted to do so in order to give it to Trump for limitless gain, which a court said doesn’t work for eminent domain.
I’m sure the city went through that lawsuit and all the hassles just out of the goodness of their hearts. Like they do for EVERYBODY, right?
Trump has referred to his many democrat campaign contributions as “the cost of doing business”. Cruz was highlighting some of the stuff that really means. And Trump doesn’t deny it; he says instead that it also benefits others besides just him. FAir points, all.
But the Cruz ad was wrong if it said Trump got rich specifically off of eniment domain. That much I agree with.
“suggested that he didn’t mind his supporters knowing that he wouldn’t be campaigning for the primaries he said he needed to win in order to stay in the race.”
“suggested”???? That is an incredible thing to maintain. It was never Cruz’s place to inflate a supposed “suggestion”, which was never even hinted at in reality, into a stated fact. It was, you realize, presented as a stated fact.
I heard Trump say he would be leaving early to avoid getting snowed in. Carson mentioned the weather also.
Stop trying to make excuses. It was a lie propelled by Cruz and his operatives.
I will ask one more time. Is there any evidence—I’ll assume you know what evidence is—that Trump did anything more than offer this woman very large sums for her home? What is the EVIDENCE that he bribed a local politician or exercised some other means of manipulation?
[But since Carson is an unimportant candidate, pulling that **** on him was âfair gameâ (Cruzâs words).]
I can see you have not participated in politics. Campaign staff look out for themselves. They make a living running campaigns. No doubt they contacted the CRUZ staff to get on board what they believe is a winning candidate. That’s how it is.
Quote the words of Cruz’s “lie”. To be a lie it has to be factually incorrect and he had to have known that it was factually incorrect.
What we are talking about... transcends by far any typical political deal making to get endorsements. Cruz has put together a team that specifically comes up with dirty tricks that are absolute falsehoods.
A few recent examples that we are all now aware of: telling Carson supporters attending the caucuses that Ben Carson had dropped out... sending out official looking fliers to registered voters saying that they were in “violation” of Iowa voting laws because they had not caucused in past elections and telling them that they would be sending out a followups to their neighbors if they didn't get out and caucus for Cruz this time... such as telling people attending the caucuses that Trump was currently for Obamacare and late term abortions. The Cruz team has been caught repeatedly lying about the positions of other candidates during the actual caucusing and also on “social media”.
This was no mistake. This is something that we will probably be seeing more of. Cruz has hired people who study and specialize in this type of misinformation and manipulating social media such as face-book, twitter and yes even Free Republic. This goes far beyond the typical sleaze we see in almost every election. Cruz wants the presidency so bad that he seems willing to sell his soul to the devil to get it.
This may be acceptable to Clinton supporters, but I and many others find it shocking and very disingenuous that the one posing as he most pure conservative and a devout Christian would do this. More shocking is that there are so many here who can ignore their own stated values to excuse it. This is something far beyond politics as usual.
+1
The evidence is his own statements that his democrat donations were “the cost of doing business”. He has openly acknowledged that this is how you get government to make deals on your behalf. It’s not a BRIBE. It is “the cost of doing business”. And he doesn’t hide that. He says in the long run it benefits lots of other people too because it creates jobs, services, and infrastructure that the greater public benefits from. And I’ve said those are valid points. He doesn’t seem to be denying that he makes these kinds of “deals”. He does deny that he gained money off of eminent domain because the court ruled against this instance of eminent domain. And I’ve said that Cruz’s ad was wrong if it said that Trump DID gain from this eminent domain. It is true that eminent domain was attempted on his behalf.
This city had no use for that house. Their only reason for incurring the costs of a very stinky lawsuit was so they could give it to Trump. Do you want your local government paying the costs for expensive lawsuits just so they can - out of the goodness of their own hearts, you seem to be claiming - condemn a widow’s land so they can give it to somebody like Trump? You think they got nothing back for that? If I was a resident of Atlantic City I’d DEFINITELY fire those critters for throwing away my tax money for no good reason.
“Quote the words of Cruzâs âlieâ. To be a lie it has to be factually incorrect and he had to have known that it was factually incorrect.”
When you release a statement made out of whole cloth, in other words, totally made up, with no facts at all supporting it, then that meets the criteria that it was known to be factually incorrect, so it is a lie.
In other words, no evidence exists that Trump bribed Atlantic City officials. You’re merely assuming that he did.
If it actually happened, why has no evidence ever surfaced?
Btw, there is a list of pols Trump has given money to. Why has no one ever found an Atlantic City official on that list?
Too soon? ;)
>> Carson never hinted he was quitting. He wanted to go home, probably to rest or who knows, and get out before the approaching storm. <<
Not deliberately, but geesh... you announce in the middle of the Iowa caucuses that you’re going home?
Has anybody ever looked? Do the records go down to city level, and that long ago? And who’s to say it was campaign cash? Donald has a lot of perks he can offer that would never make it onto a campaign contributions list.
The point is that Trump doesn’t deny that this kind of stuff is “the cost of doing business”. You schmooze people to make the deal. That’s his claim to fame. It’s what he’s blamed Cruz for not doing with Mitch McConnell.
“Not deliberately, but geesh... you announce in the middle of the Iowa caucuses that youâre going home?”
Not in the middle of the caucuses. The deception went out just before the caucus started before anyone would have time to correct it.
Trump announced before the caucus he would be leaving as early as possible to be able to fly out; Carson mentioned beating the storm, some candidates had already left and were in New Hampshire. No one was suggesting that they were getting out; Bush was in New Hampshire and he would have had more reason than Carson to leave his voters in the lurch.
Carson was “going home.”
Huh, what is this nonsense that Cruz had no clue where he was born? He knows where he was born.
