On the same day he won the Republican Iowa caucus, Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas got a favorable decision from the Illinois Board of Elections, which ruled that he met the citizenship criteria to appear on the state's primary ballot.
Two objectors, Lawrence Joyce and William Graham, had challenged Cruz's presidential bid with the board, contending that his name should not appear on the March 15 ballot because his candidacy did not comply with Article II of the Constitution.
In response to the filings, Cruz's lawyers relied on Supreme Court precedent, legal history and articles from noted constitutional scholars to defend the view that he is in fact "natural born" within the meaning in the Constitution.

Ha! Ha! Ha!
Then you know full well what natural born means under original intent. I will remember you!
Quite a few presidents weren’t natural born citizens.
I had a friend when I was a kid who was born in Germany (his dad was USAF) and he also knew he was not a natural born citizen.
Born here of citizen parents.
Impossible to be anything but a US citizen.
That is what natural born citizen means.
One is NATURALLY a US citizen because one cannot be anything else.
We need to hear from the SUPREMES! CRUZ cannot win the citizenship argument unless this happens.
Why would the Dems sue Rubio? He was born on U.S. soil to two legal resident aliens (not illegals) and so is a 14A citizen-at-birth.
Did the founders want middle eastern princes to be eligible for POTUS?
It doesn’t mean what you think.
I believe the original intent and the intent now is that “natural born citizen” means that a person who is a citizen at the moment of their birth. It does not mean they are citizen only by virtue of being born in this country. That is a big misconception.
Because they could bribe a judge to take him out. It doesn’t have to make sense. As long as the vulnerability is there they could exploit it.
I know there are too many IFS in this question, but does anyone know, because I’m curious, IF Cruz (or Rubio) won the election to become President, and the day after the election or thereabouts, suit was brought claiming ineligibility, which could drag on past the January swearing in, who then would be the President? Would Obama get to stay in until a determination was made, and IF the suit was against Cruz (or Rubio), would the Presidency be awarded, eventually, to the runner up Republican with the highest votes. The worry is who would be President in the inerim? Cruz (or Rubio’s’) V.P. appointee? Or IF Cruz or Rubio was deemed illegal wouldn’t that exclude their choice for V.P. I would like to know what would be the possible scenario on something like this.
Did those middle eastern princes have a parent who were resident citizens of the U.S, within five years of their birth?
I didn’t think so.
Trump is my #2. But he going to sink himself and Cruz if he keeps this up.
Then we will be voting Rubion and Hordes of immigrants that we can not absorb.
Sorry...interim
The first ones exempted themselves with, “or a citizen at the time of”, because there couldn’t be any natural born citizens for a while. The only questionable one before The Usurper was Chester A. Arthur and he went to great pains to destroy any evidence so we don’t really know one way or the other.
That's because the laws at the time determined citizenship status at birth through the father. The laws have been changed. If they had not been, Cruz would have had a problem.
No, I was born a citizen. I was NOT born on US soil. Thus not natural born.
Natural born is akin to a birthright. Only two citizen parents delivering a child on US soil is natural born.
Anchor babies are NOT natural born citizens.. Naturalized citizens yes.
He’s eligible to me. I believe he was born an American citizen by virtue of his mother being American.
I’m glad authorities have upheld his qualifications.
I may not like Cruz for other reasons, but eligibility isn’t one of them. But in case I do have to vote for him, I’d rather this matter be settled, and now it appears to be, so that is great.
Furthermore, as a person who supports Trump, I’m further glad this issue is settled so that Trump can stop talking about it now. It’s obviously isn’t winning him votes, least not in Iowa, so I hope he focuses on things that matter now.
I say he is not. That’s enough for me.
Tsk tsk.. You didnt answer the question. BTW HOW SOON DID PRINCESS GRACE HAVE CHILDREN.
