The Jeb Bush → Marco Rubio Donor Shift Is Real And It’s Accelerating
BuzzFeed ^ | Feb. 1, 2016 | Katherine Miller and Jeremy Singer-Vine

Posted on 02/02/2016 6:30:54 AM PST by justlittleoleme

Approximately 119 previous Jeb Bush donors gave to Marco Rubio for the first time in December.

That’s part of an accelerating trend over the last few months as Bush’s candidacy slowly tanked during the fall, according to a BuzzFeed News data analysis of the most recent campaign finance reports.

Because FEC filings are long and complex, we used a script that matched first name, last name, and zip code to identify the donors. That’s a decent rule of thumb, but not perfect; it doesn’t account, for example, for people who moved between ZIP codes, for who donors misspelled their names, or for ZIP codes with multiple people with the same name. Hence, the word “approximately.”

And although it’s not a huge number of donors, it’s not insignificant either — the donors contributed approximately $249,500, per BuzzFeed News data analysis.

Here’s how many former Bush donors Rubio appears to have picked up each of the past few months:

During a debate in late October, Bush attacked Rubio’s Senate voting attendance — an attack that Rubio responded to by telling his fellow Floridian, “The only reason why you’re doing it now is because we’re running for the same position, and someone has convinced you that attacking me is going to help you.” Since then, Bush hasn’t exactly backed away from the critique, and the pro-Bush super PAC Right to Rise has spent an estimated $20 million attacking Rubio.

Those attacks have been a long-reported source of discomfort for Bush donors, at least some of whom are also Rubio fans.

RUBIO was the big winner last night.

Cruz and Trump kill each other off state after state.

Rubio becomes the ‘he can win’ guy - just like Romney.

Fox news last night had a commentator call Rubio “He’s John F. Kennedy to Hillary’s Richard Nixon.”

All scripted.

Cruz was the big winner last night.. Everyone was saying Trump would win.

All Rubio did was a better job of managing the expectations game.

Rubio represents the level of establishment support in IOWA.

This shows the conservatives are not the minority in IOWA.

Heard several “Polls show Rubio is the only guy in the field that can beat Hillary one on one.”

Gang of 8 will have their amnesty if Rubio wins.

Where would the money go?

They hate Trump and they sure as hell hate Cruz.

Carson was 4th and he went home to change clothes.

RUBIO is the GOPe go to guy now.

RUBIO was the big winner last night.

Do the math.

everyone surely knows by now, politicians cannot be trusted at all with responsibility and authority; but, apparently, neither can voters either, legal and/or otherwise!

Nuff said.

I think Rubio would get chewed up and spit out by the Clintons.

As I’ve already posted this morning, I fear that Cruz would also lose (though I think he deserves immense credit for his impressive win in IA last night).

Then there’s Trump. I think Trump has a chance to beat hilary.

So who can beat her?

Rubio? No.
Cruz? Maybe.
Trump: Probably.

That’s how I see it.

The political elite class strategy to keep the status quo.

Democrats know that Hillary & Bernie have no chance with all the baggage of the past 8 years of Obama against the outsider candidates. I think Democrats crossed over to vote for Rubio. GOPe got democrats to vote for Rubio, just like they got them to vote for Cochran in Mississippi. There is after all the snafu with 90 Democrat precincts. Not enough staff to count the votes? Coin toss? Right.

They voted for the least harmful Republican to keep the political elite status quo in power. Rubio is that political elite class candidate. Rubio is woefully unprepared to be President and can not stand up against stronger politicians. He rates with Ryan, McConnell, Boehner et al as a Rino. Democrats also know that Conservatives won’t hold their nose this time and vote for Rubio. So there would be a chance for Hillary if the fix is in for her to be the nominee.

Cruz’s speech last night was telling.

He did a 40 minute sermon Houston mega-preacher style.

No way he can win the east coasters or left coasters. He’d get less traction than Romney.

That’s why it was 24/7 Trump bash from all the political class and media class. Incoming!

Knife in Jebbie's back. His protégé took him out

A few months back, there was some quote from Jeb that Rubio wasn't grateful, like Rubio wouldn't have gotten anywhere without him. Wonder how that sat.

FWIW, this is interesting because Rubio is not "plan B" for the elite. That would be Kasich, maybe Fiorina and Christie being okay with them. I'm wondering if their thinking is to take out Cruz and Trump with Rubio, then go after him.

An aside...for my whole life, I've religiously avoided soap operas and the addiction to them. This real life, in real time soap opera....courtesy of DT.....is irresistible!

Fox is basically the Marco News Network at this point. They are blatantly and openly pushing his candidacy.

Marco is now the establishment guy and he may well be our nominee (barf)

I lost my mind last night and actually felt a twinge of sadness for Jebbie when he didn’t have anyone willing to stand up and talk for him in a crowd of a 700 people caucus.

Then I got over it.

Poor Jebbie lost the Bush Dynasty. I fully believe everyone expected him to be crowned until Donald Trump up ended everything.

I concur than Rubio was the biggest winner last night. Cruz had to win to effectively stay in the race. He not only stayed in the race but proved he has the organization, at least in Iowa, to do the job. Cruz will need to show he has the organization in other states.

Trump ddi well but is a victim of his setting high expectations to win. He now has to win New Hampshire but by more than a few points, again it is a game of expectations with him.

Rubio came out of Iowa as the clear RINO candidate. If he finishes as the clear RINO favorite in New Hampshire against Christie, Jeb! Kasich, then expect the other two to pull out and endorse Rubio. If any of the three beat Rubio or come close then it is on the SC.

One of my biggest fears is developing in that we have Trump/Cruz splitting the conservative vote with Rubio sucking up all the RINO vote.

Rubio is exactly the kind of candidate the GOP voters love - very conventional, says all the right lines, looks earnest, and comes out on election day with 235 electoral votes.

Some habits die hard.

I’m afraid you’re right. Cruz coming in first doesn’t seem to mean a whole lot.

But I’ll tell you one thing - Reagan’s Eleventh Commandment is dead, dead, DEAD!

Rather than concentrate their fire on two EASY targets - Hillary & Bernie - the Republicans tear into each other with sadistic glee. Doing the DNC’s work for them.

Trump skipped the debate & rather than carve him up in absentia, the candidates ganged up on Cruz - as Trump knew they would do.

Becoming disgusted with the whole process. GOPe says the Reagan era is over & that it’s time to move on. Toward what, I ask?

No, Fox is the RINO network. Cruz is convenient for the moment to take down Trump. If that occurs they will then turn all guns on Cruz.
