I love salmon too. I love most seafood. In a given year, me and my wife go through about 40 lbs of shrimp (Steamed of course). If I could afford it, I could and would easily triple that amount if not more.
I hear ya! Wish I could travel all the coastal areas of the country eating their fresh catch!! :)
Years ago when we lived in Charleston, SC we would go shrimping off East Bay Street...
We had 6 shrimp nets and we would join the locals on the old pier there..
they all had their own special type of bait they swore by , chicken necks etc, but I would use smoked pieces of liver...we would swop stories and had a great time..
after we got home again I would sprinkle BBQ smoke salt on the livers and put them back in a baggie and into the freezer until next time...
We pegged the bait onto our shrimp nets with ordinary wooden clothes pegs and the shrimp loved it because it was frozen the bait didn’t crumble and float away and the shrimp loved the smokey smell and taste...they swarmed the net like lemmings...
in no time we would have 100-200 shrimp..I would gut them right there and put them in a bucket of ice to take home the innards and heads I also took home for my vegetable garden...
I would save 1/2 cardboard milk cartons and put 50 shrimp in each one with water and put them in the freezer...there were usually at least 2 cartons and sometimes as many as 4...
When I wanted to make shrimp cocktail or cook them in a dish I just peeled off the outside milk carton and placed the big ice block in a big pot on low to melt..etc
This was 30+ years ago the area is built up now ...sorry :(
