âVote for anyone but Cruz,â declared the much-vaunted Iowa establishment governor, Terry Branstad. Between Trump, the establishment, and Fox News, they threw everything they had at him in the months preceding the 2016 Iowa Caucus.
We heard it all: birtherism, ethanol, Goldman Sachs loans, the Palin endorsement, Cruz supposedly losing every debate, the Santorum/Huckabee sniping, the entire establishment ganging up to defeat him. Then we were told that even if Cruz wins Iowa, a victory would only occur in the event of low turnout. After all, the newbies will all be for Trump. Well, Cruz won with a record turnout, projected to be near 180,000. It also appears that Cruz will break Mike Huckabeeâs previous record of the most total votes received by the caucus winner. And he did it in an elevn-person race.

Romney was just too slippery for many people and his 47% remark hurt him by showing him as uncaring about people’s lives.
And income inequality, big government and everything else just resonate with Americans today.
They’re angry.
I don’t think it would have been that close in 2000 if it had been another republican. That ‘compassionate conservative” slogan was totally uninspiring, even insulting, as it implied conservatism wasn’t compassionate to begin with.
Just like his later mantra ‘Islam is the religion of peace,’ which implies other religions are not, I think it supressed enthusiasm.
you have pinpointed the problem....
I hope you are right.
My reservations have nothing to do with Cruz’s abilities.
I fear the electorate, and I fear the Clinton’s corruption.
This is really why a conservative agenda is pretty much a lost cause in America today. "Income inequality" is so nebulous that it can never be fixed -- if it is even a real problem to begin with. And most Americans a perfectly comfortable with "big government" -- in fact, they love it. The only thing that bothers them about it today is that they see captains of industry who are in bed with the U.S. government benefiting from it more than anyone else.
People want free.
Sanders Claus is gonna be very tough to beat.
People see all that free stuff, they figure out someone else is going to pay for it.
Kicked lord ethanol square in the kernels and got away with it.
Ethanol took a major hit last night, if Cruz wins it could be the end of that nonsense.
Trump cozied up to the ethanol cronies, but came out the loser.
My congratulations to Misters Cruz, Trump and Rubio.
The first two, I would vote for in a new York minute. Mr. Rubio? I doubt I could, but he is a very smart young man and maybe, just maybe he could win me over.
I think Cruz would crush Hillary....
dear God, make it so!
Are you listening to yourself?
“Getting tired of seeing people say Cruz can’t win the general.
As for the record, Cruz got 51,000 votes. Previously, Santorum won with 29,000 and Huckabee won with 40,000”
How are presidents Santorum and Huckabee doing these days?
Glad Cruz did well, and I’ll vote for him if he wins the nomination, but I agree that Cruz can’t win the general. He’s just another pasty, white, traditional republican. He has zero crossover appeal, lacks name and face recognition among the voters that decide general elections, and has the citizenship thing hanging over his head.
IA is actually 92 percent white.
But percentages mean nothing. The only number that matters in the end is who goes out on election day and votes.
And that is SCARY AF. And more than reason enough for all here to coalesce to be part of ANY opposition to the left.
Personally I would have no problem with Rubio. He screwed up with the amnesty thing but he learned a big lesson. I don’t see that coming again up for a long time but mostly we can not have Hillary!!!
Who will be running against either a pasty white 74 yo socialist or a pasty white 69 yo has been. He'll wipe the deck with either of them!!!
In all honesty, he learned very little from his broken promises. I mean just look to last night, how bad did that hurt him as he is still for amnesty.
