Will Jeb Bush win the Republican nomination?
Washington Post ^ | 1/31/16 | Aaron Blake

Posted on 01/31/2016 2:45:45 PM PST by jimbo123

This look at Jeb Bush's chances and path to win the Republican presidential nomination is part of a series here on The Fix looking at all the top candidates.

Where does he stand in the polls?

The former Florida governor began the race as the odds-on Republican front-runner, and the early polling backed that up. He led most every national poll conducted in late 2014 and traded leads with Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, among others, early in 2015.

Then, the race actually began. Bush launched his campaign in mid-June, and by mid-July began a steady decline. While he topped out at around 17 percent, most national polls now have him stuck in the back of the pack, around 5 percent.

The picture is about the same in Iowa. In New Hampshire, he does slightly better, coming in around 10 percent with a bunch of other candidates essentially tied for second place. That still leaves Bush in a jumbled race of non-Trumps, but it does appear to be his best hope for a state to win.

How has he performed?

Bush's campaign has been the most underwhelming of the entire race.

Is that guy crossing his eyes on purpose?

I thought Walker was the frontrunner then blew it, then a certain New Yorker overwhelmed everybody.

I agree, they plan to do something tricky about Cruz’ eligibility. If they do not, the democrats certainly will if Cruz is nominated. Trump is on the right track here, so stop hating him for it, please. Better for Cruz to fix this now, and if he cannot, then withdraw right away. I suspect, come convention time, they will not only take Cruz delegates away, they will also take Rubio delegates away because he has an eligibility issue too. What I don’t see is the rationale for giving them ALL to Bush!

Saw the headline. Saw the source. No need to read further.

I'm sure WaPo wants Jeb to be the candidate, 'cause Hillary might be able to beat him.

If Jeb wins the nomination most Republicans will stay home (I know I will). But you can't push-poll the Republicans into voting for him, and there aren't enough Dems willing to cross over and even make it close.

Sissiphus would have an easier job moving that stone, so go ahead, WaPo, knock yourself out.

If he had any ambitions of running for president, he shouldn’t have chosen so many liberal decisions as governor of Florida. He made so many stupid mistakes that it is impossible to recover from them now. Some people are really watching. We are not all democrats!

Oh, heck yeah! He’s already ahead except for the other candidates and 98% of the American people. Go Yeb!

"Brokered convention with Jeb/Kasich ticket."

Wouldn't surprise me a bit.

Other non-surprise outcomes might include Jeb/Christie, or Kasich/Rubio. Why Kasich at the front of the ticket? -> Just to remind the "little people" how much their opinion actually matters.

Remember, that the Washington Post is a main propaganda organ of the democratic party. This article is best explained that they WANT to run against Bush, who will likely be beaten by whatever the democrats run.

No other reason.

Sorry, Trump will be our nominee.

Good luck beating him without a kick back in your teeth, WashPost!!!

You say what I fear is true, If no one has the total votes needed before the first vote...all bets are off.

The party selects the delegates from their loyal members. They are free to vote their own desires after the first ballot. Weird rules added at the last convention make the path for an outsider...virtually blocked!

What’s so funny?

You do realize that the supporters of Trump aren’t going to vote for anyone else should shenanigans prevent Trump from winning.

Rove and Priebus's plan to make their brokered convention scheme work is to declare Cruz ineligible at the convention and appropriate his delegates and give them to Jeb.

I hear what you're saying but what gives them the power to "declare Cruz ineligible"? Based on what law? If nothing else Cruz could contest it legally. We'll see. .

Will Jeb Bush win the Republican nomination?

When he doesn't and goes home, will they lock him out?

What is so funny are the comments I get attacking me when I say that I could never vote for Trump in any election.

I can’t believe anyone was stupid enough to vote for him. Or did Jeb’s Mommy and Daddy rig that one, too?
