In an interview this morning on This Week, Donald Trump cited his desire to "help people" as the reason he favors government-funded universal health coverage. Unlike Ted Cruz, Trump said, "I have a heart."
"If somebody has no money and they're lying in the middle of the street and they're dying, I'm going to take care of that person," Trump said.

Presidents Romney and McCain admire your pragmatism. [As do I.]
Unfortunately, The Donald's® history is far to the left of both of them.
You are incoherent. Whats the frequency Kevin? :-)
You want an issue, DT said he'd keep it whole he was saying he'd continue the ethanol mandate.
Tell me, please, just how you or anyone else is going to have a resurgence in manufacturing in America with that agency in place.
They have fought energy.
They have fought mining
They have created and re-created moving target emissions standards which have cost billions in downtime and re-fits, only to move the bar again when the re-fits are done.
They have virtually killed the coal mining industry by forcing coal burning electrical generation plants offline with the destructive economics of changing emissions standards.
They have attacked hydraulic fracturing, the production enhancement technique which has enabled America's resurgence as an oil producer and cheaper gasoline in your tank.
They have declared CO2 a "pollutant", and deemed they have the power to regulate it. (don't breathe too hard when you read this, you exhale CO2, too).
They polluted the Animas River with mine waste, despite being told their approach to the drainage problem was flawed. The disaster was predicted a week ahead of the event.
They attacked a couple over filling in a low spot in their yard, declaring that an "intermittent wetland".
They attempted (still in court) to give a million+ acres of Wyoming to the Wind River Indian Tribe, despite much of it being private property, and despite the fact that changes to State boundaries must be approved by Congress. As an aside, that area includes the town of Pavilion, where the EPA constructed test wells to 'prove' fraccing polluted water. One was drilled into an oil bearing formation, the other was constructed so badly the USGS refused to even test it. There might be some butt covering there, because the change from being governed by US and Wyoming law to Tribal Law just might affect people's ability to investigate what went on with that.
That's just one thing, but it is a show stopper.
How is America going to become "Great Again" in the face of preserving the very agency which has driven jobs offshore, shut down industry, and put people out of work?
Answer that.
You'd think it wouldn't be necessary around here.

Tom Sowell is rock solid!
The concept is ‘Pragma.’
It is a Russian word that most closely translated into English means “must happen.” (i.e. the very cosmos would fail if it did not)
People throw the term pragmatic around without fully understanding what it meant to those that coined the word.
“The ends do justify the means.”
NRO didn’t slander Tump. He has lived his life through that concept.
.
‘It was nothing short of a coup.’
Trying to pressure Jim Robinson to cowtow to one candidate?
"Did I mention my dad was a mailman, by the way?"
Yeah, I saw it.
The quotes are accurate; the context is not. The context is that the government will pay for those who can’t pay for themselves. So basically, like Medicaid.
I don’t like Medicaid. I’m not a fan of Trump saying that the government will pay for anything. But a government safety net plus competition across state lines is a LOT better than what we have now.
Argue against Trump’s positions if you like, but don’t lie about it. You’re only doing your own candidate harm.
“Everyone gets healthcare anyway. Whatâs really crazy is all the illegals who come here and get it â even hospitals entering the US with patients [some pregnant].”
YES, YES, YES! Free medical care for 40 million illegal aliens is THE real problem with our health care system. Refusing free or subsidized health care for these foreign nationals alone would solve the health care cost issues in out country.
Oh, I trust that if Cruz was in favor of single-payer, you’d be against it.
But if Cruz was saying what Trump was saying about competition across state lines from insurance companies, you’d be all-in.
But it seems to me that you either hate and loathe Trump so much that you can’t agree with anything he says, OR you can’t bring yourself to believe that he might have something positive to say.
.
>> “Maybe he has no heart.” <<
Means exactly the same thing.
Stop covering for this bastard.
If you want him, accept him as he really is.
Funny Truno;s website has no position stated on healthcare. Why is that?
He has made public statements about supporting UNIVERSAL HEALTH CARE that the government would pay for.
“ALL of those programs are the reason for the exploding cost of healthcare. “
The real explosion in costs is treating 40 million illegal aliens for free. Quit giving all of these foreign nationals free medical care and most of the problems are automatically solved.
.
You’re totally twisted.
You need reality, but in your state, you would never recognize it.
.
‘Tom Sowell is rock solid!’
Interesting history behind ‘pragmatism’. Not many Russian words end up in English. Funny how meanings change over the centuries, but as to Sowell ...
I used to quote Sowell with awe and may still admire him in the future. But he tried to compare Trump to Neville Chamberlain — an appeaser? Silliest thing I read yet to compare Trump with.
Ah well, sorry to deviate here.
Said my peace [kind of]. Guess this will get cleared up over time.
FRegards ....
Why?
You’ve either shown STAGGERING ignorance of how the Senate works at the moment, or you’re just trying to defend SainTed Cruz from his own record and twisting yourself in pretzels doing so.
I really can’t top that.
You, too.
They had been pressuring him for weeks to completely ban Trump supporters for just the fact that they were supporting him. Twice there were threads demanding this that were pulled.
They were also openly telling people to no longer contribute financially to the site.
It all came to a head where they gave him an ultimatum to start following their demands (essentially almost running the site under their edicts), I think a couple of weeks ago. He told them to get bent, and that’s when the ban hammer started coming down. A number of them have started up some blogspot site where they have been ripping into him since.
‘Maybe he has no heart.’
A wee bit better. Still not happy with it.
What about ‘Universal Health Coverage’ — he did say that at least?
Welcome to election season. It is silly season. I don't care for whom you vote. And if you suggest you are some sort of a victim, I have no sympathy for you.
