Donald Trump may have been conspicuously absent, but Thursday night's Republican debate on Fox News Channel nevertheless scored a 8.4 rating and 12.5 million viewers, according to early numbers from Nielsen. That's higher than the returns for the last Republican debate, Jan. 14 on sister net Fox Business Network, and marks the No. 2 telecast in FNC history.
Meanwhile, all the other cable news networks were covering Trump's competing event in Iowa, during which Trump boasted he raised $5 million for veteran's charities. Those other cable news networks, neither of which blanketed the time period with the event, averaged a respective 1.76 million viewers (CNN) and 1.02 million viewers (MSNBC) between 9 and 11 p.m. ET.

Oh, for heaven’s sake, Bonnie, does no one get a joke.
Trump was parodying Trump’s threat. It was a joke.
What I saw did not create any laughter...It was one quick comment during the last hour...
Because it just wasn’t funny and he came across as shrill and angry. Dumb move.
elapsed days between debates on the same network
Well I gotta give you points for effort there. But no sale, I'm not buying. That is a desperate reach for something to salvage from this debacle. Elapsed days makes no difference when there are super variables such as drama, publicity, infighting, promotion, and a million others.
You realize they had a lot more hype for this 2nd debate than the 1st one because Trump has been dominating ever since the first one, the Princess Megyn controversies, and now you had this great drama of "will he show up" leading up to it. It has consumed everything in its wake for the previous 48 hours, including the unprecedented publicity on competing networks! Nothing has ever had this much hype.
It is safe to say he took away at least 5 million viewers all by himself, some estimates are much higher. This alone is at least double the typical O'Reilly total viewership, or ten times his average of 500k and is nothing short of huge news. That is exactly why the had a full court press involving every single element of FNC begging Trump to come back.
... other than folks such as us who kinda OBSESS over this stuff ...
I don't much care for it either, but the point of *your* thread here is the issue at hand. This was pure propaganda, a lie that began with a putz named Bill Kristol, and you have been duly informed of that fact, but still haven't addressed whether this was a mere accidental error of accepting it at face value, or rather a TDS induced intentional spreading of falsehoods from that TDS sufferer-in-chief at the Weekly Standard..
It was not an excellent showing.
Their sales projections for advertisers were predicting 20M plus.
That’s what I’m saying about the spin.

Look, I’ve tired of your hyperactive and strange imaginings. Go look at the original posting I did here which was simply to link to an article mentioning the RATINGS for Thursday night’s debate. The mere mention of those ratings for some reason elicited feverish LUNACY and strange postings from the TRUMP (PEACE BE UPON HIM) Worshippers. I’ll leave you now to your strange thoughts.
I know I did ...it was uber annoying.
You are exactly right. I put up with a couple of CNN's ignorant interruptions, but when Santorum and Huckabee showed up at the Veterans benefit, and that CNN dingleberry immediately interrupted Santorum's speech, I switched to CSPAN (which I understand was not included in the number estimates for the "Veterans" viewers).
CSPAN didn't interrupt anything, and they actually showed different shots of the crowd there.

Duly noted! You were presented with the facts disproving the propaganda you promoted and now run off without acknowledging the error. Awesome. Sleep well!
More importantly is this ...
REPEAT BUSINESS.
So people watched a hatchet-job on Cruz after Number 1 boycotted them?
How does that leave the audience feeling about FoxNews?
They hurt their ‘brand’.
Specifics coming up in ‘post to self’.
It was not a debate. It was a cheap ‘gotcha-interview’.

The second individual, Dulce Candy, is an immigrant from Mexico, a former U.S. military servicewoman, and a Latina. Trump’s commitment to build a wall between the U.S. and Mexico could very well be a topic of her discussions with the candidates.
The third individual, Nabela Noor, is a Muslim American who is an outspoken critic of anyone who, like Trump, questions the motivations of Muslims, Muslim immigrants, Islam, and jihad. Noor, who reportedly equated Trump with Adolf Hitler, will most likely address Muslim-related issues with the candidates. Quite possibly, Noor will question Trump’s plan to temporarily close U.S. immigration to Muslims. Noor states she uses her voice to combat what she perceives as negative stereotypes of Muslims, a phenomena she states is more prevalent.

Who cares about ratings of the moment?
FoxNews damaged their own reputation. That has long-term consequences.
Please note post 110.
It was not a debate. It was a cheap âgotcha-interviewâ.
Exactly. Fox comes off looking stupid to those who still care although I am sure they are busy praising themselves about it. And ironically, the "debate" carried forth after it ended ( I saw a repeat ) with candidates like Cruz sitting right back down with Miss Megyn again.
What was Ted thinking even trusting her?

It's safe to say that Trump is operating at such a high level of strategy that none of these "opponents" including the media have a chance in hell of out-thinking him. Their obvious trap was identified, and multiple counter-traps were laid and sprung. It is a shame that Ted had to step into it, but maybe he will learn something about their methods now and stop believing they are his friends. Or maybe not.
I almost feel sorry for all these schmucks. Almost. But it is all good for the Trump campaign, as he is getting good target practice in before the big shoot.
[With moderators like these â who needs enemies?]
Yep, but remember they are enemies. Always were. We just had no firm evidence of the scope of the problem until Trump flushed them out of the Bushes ( pun intended ).
Are you like the Tokyo Rose of FR?
“Their sales projections for advertisers were predicting 20M plus”.
Whoops! Fox loses!
How would I know that? Radio. Amplitude modulation. Audio playback. It’s an old technology.
