Donald Trump counter-programmed Thursday's GOP primary debate on Fox with his own prime time event. So whose show scored a bigger audience?
Answer: Fox's debate. But it was the second lowest rated debate of the season. So Trump is certain to take credit for hurting the channel's total viewership.
Fox News Channel's Trump-less debate had an 8.4 household rating, according to early Nielsen data from so-called metered markets.
This means 8.4% of American metered market homes with TV sets were watching the face-off.
By comparison, two of the cable channels that showed parts of Trump's event, CNN and MSNBC, had about a quarter of Fox's audience combined.
So Trump's rivals clearly came out ahead in the raw ratings.
The most recent GOP debate, televised two weeks ago on the harder-to-find Fox Business Network, had a household rating of 7.4.
So Thursday's debate was bigger -- but not by much. The other five GOP debates of the cycle have had household ratings ranging from 8.9 to 15.9.

It was shown on several channels, so hoe did they stack up the numbers from Cspan and elsewhere?

I wish I’d known that. I should have checked.
Not exactly the result Trump was hoping for. Intelligent people are figuring out that Trump is just a blowhard.
Yawn
If Trump was there, it would have gotten 20 + Million everyone was looking forward to the Megyn Kelly confrontation.
What were the ad rates when Trump was in and what were they when he was out?
I am guessing Fox took a hit.
There is no way Trump’s even would have beat FOX in the ratings,,having been thrown together so quickly.
HOwever, the fact there was a dent in FOXs ratings is clarifying. Trump now has more leverage. Advertisers are going to be smarter going forward spending money during FOX debates.
CSPAN has no measurement of how many were watching. That will be completely glossed over.
Well Barrett=Jackson Auto Auction was on live from Scottsdale AZ and I have to admit I watched that.
It was close? Debate got 11 million give or take. Trump got 3 million give or take. Close? Really?
Last night’s debates had higher ratings than the previous. But who are we kidding? The One will brag and his supporters will continue their blind faith agreement.
I watch on one american news
And Cruz got spanked.
Notice the Cruzbots are saying Cruz won the debate,
but that Faux won the night.
Cruz, the smartest man in the world had a bad night, last night.
This is not going to affect the vote one way or another on Monday.
Trump avoiding the ambush, and denying Cruz a final prime-time shot at him when Cruz desperately needs it to stem the loss he is suffering in Iowa polls, are much, much bigger deals.
As always, Trump did the smart thing.
“Intelligent people are figuring out that Trump is just a blowhard.”
So the vets attending Trump’s rally are not intelligent?
Leni
It's not on my cable line up but I just found out that I can watch it on the Firestick. I'll have it on Monday and start watching then.
Cruz earned money for FOX last night. Ok..guess that’s something to be proud of...?
You do know The One asked FNC for $5 million dollars to show up? Lol.
