Good point.
I would imagine being armed had a lot to do with it. That would cover the “by...intimidation, or threat...” part of Section 372.
Guns change the complexion of everything. I’m about as pro-gun a person as you’re going to meet, but I know that if you bring weapons to a “sit-in” you’re raising the stakes a few notches. This was not the most well-thought-out maneuver on the ranchers’ part.
Nice catch. I was trying to figure why the guy in the woods wouldn't have a rifle.
That explains it.
I did see one guy trudge over with a bag (a long while after the bear was apparently dead). He looked really enthusiastic about it /s. Had to drag the bag out of the pickup and trudge through all that snow to drop it down 5 feet from the dead bear......because he got so tired lugging all that medical life-saving gear over to the bear. In the end, after at least 15 minutes there was nothing they could do for the bear with the 4 likely bullet holes in him.
Did you get a load of the guy with the video camera 25 feet from the action? He's to the right of Finicum as he's being shot, inside the group of vehicles, to the left.
It's almost a slam-dunk they have video with audio.
What originally caused the white SUV to bolt off towards what I’d call an ambush? Was it shots-fired from the feds on his tail?
Actually, another good point, considering he was coming around a blind curve, on snowy roads.
Did your downloaded video magically come with audio?
You can't make any real definitive conclusions without the audio.
Did you have audio?
If you had no audio, you can't make definitive conclusions.
LaVoy Finicum 2K Color with SloMotion (Stabilized)
> I’d bet chopper strobe flash reflection or a camera lens aberration from the chopper.
Stepping frame by frame that does not seem likely.
“What originally caused the white SUV to bolt off towards what I’d call an ambush? Was it shots-fired from the feds on his tail?”
It might very well have been. I have not scrutinized the video although I have downloaded it for later. But what I originally said still stands. Once they have reason to believe you’re armed, they’re not going to cut you much slack.
Yeah. That assertion of potential danger is always first to come to the forefront. It’s the catchall that gets a lot of LEOs off from events not closely videoed or released without court order.
[[My conclusion is that first they should not have sped away when they were pulled over]]
According to the witness in the car, they had been shot at while complying with orders- several times infact- Anyone with a sense of self preservation at this point would have done the same thing=-
[[Its unfortunate but they raised the threat level.]]
When? After they were shot at?
[[Even looks like he got one out. Sorry to say this was a clean shoot on the part of the LEO’s. ]]
Could you see if it was before or after he got shot? Aynone who had been shot would be very likely to go for their gun- and it’s very possible he was reaching for the spot he’d been hit-
[[Leaving a secure location to travel on unsecured roads, one has to expect to be interdicted]]
True, but one should not expect to be shot at while stopped-
[[Once youâve initiated a confrontation/violence (running the traffic stop), your options are limited.]]
Again- according ot the eyewitness In the car- it was the police that initiated the violence
“Yeah. That assertion of potential danger is always first to come to the forefront.”
Because it’s mostly true. Mr. Finicum said something to the effect that he’d rather die than go to jail. That’s a big red flag because the way that usually works out is the guy starts shooting at the nearest cop with the predictable result.
Looks like the agent on the left (in short sleeves no less) hit him with some kind of incapacitating device. I don’t think it’s a taser, at least not one of those shaped like a pistol. The agent also ducks his head at the same time - not sure if that’s a response to the other agent’s gunfire, or some reaction to the device he was using. Another thing, the agent looks down at the device after its use. That’s not something one would likely do if it was a familiar sidearm.
Yes. You’re assertion is true. Won’t say it isn’t. BUT. Given the fact this man did say as reported to “not go alive”, it seems to me the feds had the option of the time and place well staked out and prepared. They had a long range Drone on hand (just look at the blacked out telemetry on the video - that isn’t an Amazon drone). They had trailing armed feds pushing them forwards (what caused the actual high speed bolt, BTW?) They had waiting forces behind a curve and hunters on foot - ARMED to the hilt. They had no back up medical help save a bag from the back of a truck - so hastily deployed 15 minutes after the shooting.....all that. Yes, dangerous and forewarned. But only dangerous to a man getting out of a snowbound SUV with his hands up. Don’t even tell me they didn’t plan to take him or anyone else down with deadly force, regardless.
