Is Donald Trump the sharia of American politics? I'm having trouble finding much daylight between Islamic law's repressive blasphemy standards and the mogul's thin-skinned sense of privilege.
None of us wants to be insulted or smeared. But sharia forbids not only ridicule or slander against Islam; it bans any examination that casts Islam in an unflattering light. Worse, truth is not a defense: Even if one's questions are based on undeniable past actions or verbatim quotes from scripture, tough questioning is considered blasphemous. Retribution, moreover, is often completely out of proportion to the scale of the perceived "offense."
How is Trump different?
They say politics ain't beanbag: People in and around it eventually get slammed by opponents and other critics. But to Trump, the mildest criticisms are "vicious" attacks.
Let's take the exchange last summer with Megyn Kelly that prompted Trump to whine that he was unfairly treated and to heap abuse on Ms. Kelly in the aftermath. (Before I go on, note that I support Mr. Trump's rival Ted Cruz, and that I am on friendly terms with Megyn Kelly, on whose program I periodically appear.) Given the limited time, the slew of candidates to engage, and the grave problems faced by the country, could Kelly have made a better choice than to grill Trump on his derogatory remarks about women? As they say in the debate biz, that's debatable. But the questions she asked were hardly irrelevant..

Now might be a good time to get an early start on your list.
It was not my intent to insult. Please forgive me.
Now, do Trump's flip flops that are set out in the article have any relevance as to his fitness for high office?
I understand the anger against NRO. But, must that preclude actual discussion of an article with clearly stated and well argued points of objection?
Andrew’s OpEd is well written and describes the problem that I have with Donald Trump. His mercurial personality does not appear to be suitable for a POTUS.
I am still waiting for Donald Trump to grow up emotionally, I like his legitimate anger over the state of our country; his love of the USA; his love of family; his willingness to take on the police. Certainly he is smart enough.
Now he has to demonstrate that he is mature enough to handle criticism. He is failing miserable in this task. But he still has time to mellow out. How long Donald, how long must we wait to see more stability in your responses to criticism, whether valid or invalid? I am still waiting to determine whether you deserve my vote. I want to be able to be proud of my vote for POTUS. Please do not disappoint me.
It's especially easy when the 'ad himinem' attack fits the very definition of an ad hominem attack -- pure emotional drivel aimed at discrediting the person instead of the subject under discussion.
Go ahead and line up with the GOPe, they'll appreciate you.
Living is easy with eyes closed, misunderstanding all you see. My posting history on FR clearly demonstrates that I am no supporter of the GOPe.
But that's OK. You're not open to a reasoned discussion anyway.
It seems that Trump has a very good chance of winning the nomination and the presidency. If that happens, I hope that your apparently blind faith in narcissistic charismatic leaders who seem to have no real principles will prove to be justified.
I'm not confident that it will. But time will tell.
“Trump does have the ability to turn people into raving, childish, name-calling lunatics here. He’s proven it over and over again, both here and in the media.”
***********
He turns them into himself? Because that’s all I see from the man - raving, childish, name-calling, etc. And with that Wharton intellect “they’re stupid” language, how can you argue with that?
And then they would insult anyone who didn't appreciate it a "humor". SMH
Better be careful. That is a vicious attack to most Trump supporters.
“Does The Donald have some monopoly on wanting to curb illegal immigration and protect the country from young Muslim men from the Middle East? I think several candidates share Trump’s concerns about these issues and will take questions.”
No one knows because the the other candidates haven’t had the guts to share their opinion. Trump is the ONLY one who has said, unapologetically, “No more muslim immigrants until we figure out what’s going on!”
And that's your forecast?
You sound like a guy who could of conjured up Global Warming.
No need for facts or reality to get in the way so let's make some up!
And as both sides actually DO "know what's going on," both sides know it's code for "stop Muslim infiltration."
They're either for it or against it. Period.
The writer is right. Trump doesn’t use traditional conservative campaign rhetoric, like the last five GOP presidential candidates did. Only question is, what did that conservative rhetoric ever do for any of us in real life?
You are someone who can ‘see’ despite all the smoke billowing from all over the place.
Yes, “God Bless Ronald Reagan” indeed! He single-handedly turned this country around from the economically broken and infracstructuredly weak country of 1979-80. American had truly seen better days prior to that defeatist President Carter period, and Reagan brought them back. All you have to do is see the movie Top Gun (1986) from 6 yrs later to see the resurgence of military morale in our armed forces.
We need somoene now how KNOWS and HAS EXPERIENCE in how to KICK BUTT. Ted Cruz is ideologically right on the issues, but he HAS NO EXPERIENCE! ... .Reagan had 2 TERMS as Gov of the largest state. He knew how to be an EXECUTIVE and hold people accountable. Ted has absolutely NO EXPERIENCE in holding people accountable. That’s a tall order!
Hey dude....that's what we have now.....and you think Trump would make it worse?
I believe about your using a lot 'I told you so's'. Obama used up my supply...did you use any on him on this forum?
It will be another, in what seems never ending, bad day for America if our only choices are those.
CORRECT!!!!... CASE CLOSED!!!!!!
I, for one, am DONE WITH THE RHETORIC!!!!!!!!!!!
You are certainly forgiven - While I may indulge in pointing out that particular error, I have to also admit I sometimes find myself falling into the same pit.
Now, I am aware of a lot of facts about Trump. Some of them are OK to me, others bothersome.
But I will not and cannot countenance using such a shrill article that actively insults anyone who doesn’t agree with the author’s conclusion as a basis for rational discussion. NRO has leaped into the maelstrom, yet they want people to continue to heed their words, screamed in defiance of the wind.
That would have made no sense since there were few or no Obama supporters on this forum.
There are however, many Trump supporters.
As usual, your trump fetish causes you to not actually listen and then try to use “your” version as gospel.
Rush DID NOT point out yesterday, Foxâs mission was to take down Trump during that debate. Rush said that was a rumor floating around not factual evidence.
