The famous Kalashnikov AK-47 assault rifles have been made in frigid Moscow since their inception 69 years ago. Soon, they'll be made in sunny Florida, too.
Kalashnikov USA has been approved by the city of Pompano Beach to assemble guns there.
Kalashnikov USA of Tullytown, Pa., was importing rifles made by Kalashnikov Concern, the original AK-47 manufacturer in Moscow, until 2014 when President Obama imposed sanctions against Russia following its annexation of Crimea. At that point, Kalashnikov USA severed all ties with the Russian company.
The company started making the guns in Pennsylvania last year, but is shifting manufacturing to Florida. Kalashnikov hasn't said why they are moving or how big the Pompano Beach operation will be.
Kalashnikov USA has recast itself as an American manufacturer of Kalashnikov-brand guns. It launched new lines of rifles and shotguns last week at the SHOT Show in Las Vegas, the annual conference of the National Shooting Sports Foundation.
This included its new Alpha line of rifles with high capacity magazines holding 30 rounds.
The company obtained "light manufacturing" approval in July 2015 from Pompano Beach, which is located on the Atlantic coast between Boca Raton and Fort Lauderdale.

Thats interesting.
An iconic image comes to mind of towelheads shooting full auto into the air en mass with AK’s.
I like that Tactical Shotgun.
Gets around import bans.
I doubt the ak-47 specs are some big secret and Russia is still making them.
AK-47 has a sorry history. And it was well designed but poorly manufactured.
An AR-15 with a gas operated upper has made the AK-47 obsolete.
Looky here:

I bought a Faxon 18” barrel for my AR build. Couldn’t be happier.
But.....
It is one of the easiest automatic rifles to build from scratch materials.
Third world sand pit tent hovels has 12 year olds beating out sheet metal parts for these, i cannot envision all the lathes, mills, tig welders and craftsmen across America NOT geing able to do the same....or better.
$1900 for an AR? No thanks
In Soviet Union, infantry was cheaper than rifles, so cheap rifles made sense. In the U.S. infantry was valuable, so infantrymen had expensive weapons.
The genius of Kalashnikov was he made a reliable automatic weapon that was cheap, tolerant of loose manufacturing tolerances and was soldier proof. And he did as an enlisted man in an insane political environment, without university training, and in an impoverished country, whose most developed areas were occupied by a ruthless invader.
Of course. Gotta arm the muzzies flooding across the border with their weapon of choice.
Wonder why they moved out of PA.
PA is very gun friendly.
But does have some insane union laws
It is a shame I won’t be able to get any of these, because of the Maryland ban, but I did get 3 of them before the ban went into effect. Mine have quadrails and on one of them I installed a folding stock.
If that’s a real gun, doesn’t it defeat the purpose of making toy gun manufacturers put red tips on the barrels of their “guns” ?
Yeah, but can you make an AR-15 out of a shovel?
Vodka not included.
