WASHINGTON (CNN) - At least one veteran's group doesn't want any donations from Donald Trump's fundraiser for veterans. Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America founder Paul Rieckhoff tweeted Wednesday that he would decline any contributions that came from the event, which Trump has proposed in place of his attending Fox News' debate this week.

Wanna bet he’s a Democrat?
Ahhhh so the real reason for the animus is Trump’s comments about Sen McCain( a much beloved figure here on FR).
Good. Smack Trump down on this self-aggrandizing stunt that makes a mockery of the political process and the Iowa caucus.
Hope you’re willing to donate to this group now that they’ve rejected Trump’s money.
For those wishing to support this NON-POLITICAL Veterans Organization:
Do you genuinely not know about this group? Rieckhoff was picked by the Democrats to give the Democratic Party response to one of Pres. G.W. Bush's State of the Union addresses. He formed IAVA on the heels of that. Rieckhoff always has described it as being the "largest organization for veterans" in America as a way of sidestepping that it's not composed of veterans. I've never seen IAVA admit how many (few) of its members are veterans. Yet Reickhoff claims to represent veterans and their interests--which, according to IAVA, amounts to an interest in being anti-American victims.
Suffice it to say, a few years ago, Rieckhoff was invited to appear on the Comedy Channel, and was treated by the two twerps as a god. IAVA is the Socialist Party in combat fatigues.
The latter apparently.
Rieckhoff preemptively turned down a possible Trump offer. Innocently of course, not to cause negative media for Trump.

If I had donated 1/100th what Trump has donated to wounded warriors, I would be shouting it from the rooftops everyday. This group has never received any donations from Trump AFAIK. So it is hypocrisy on their part, and disparaging Trump for this particular group, on your part.
Please nothing personal. I still love you as I do all the FReepers. After the convention, we will all be fighting together from the same Fox Hole.
LOL good one!
If the group is so great - and so in alignment with Trump - why the hell did they turn his money down? Something missing from this story - or your post.
First he hides behind the NYC first responders, and now this.
Meanwhile, he hasn't donated a nickel to his own foundation since 2006. The foundation is a kickback scheme, with the only donors coming from companies that do business with him.
Anyway, the other candidates will be going after the debate champion. So at least Trump will help to showcase Cruz.
I questioned the administrative expenses of WWP with a local veterans group board member. I said I thought they were high.
He replied that the lion’s share of the administrative expenses go to advertising. Would you rather have 45% of $100 million in revenues or 95% of $10 million in revenues?
My first thought a town hall to raise money for Wounded Warriors gave the appeance of veterans being used as a political tool. A thought NOT prefaced on any candidate.
Not being a vet, my opinion is not relevant. Thanks for posting this and for the info.
:)
So, they didn’t say “Keep your donations”.
And, Trump hadn’t offered any to that group, or, apparently, to any group yet.
The group appears to be somewhat small, having taken in about 6 million in contributions. About 650,000 was administrative expense. The leader’s salary is about 150,000.
Charity Navigator gives them 3 out of 4 stars.
So, the bottom line is that they are an OK group.
Trump has years of experience with veteran organizations. His office is filled with citations from veteran groups. He has made it a part of his platform to help these people if he gets into the office. How much has your beloved Cruz donated?
Rieckhoff’s book, Chasing Ghosts, is a scathing criticism of the Iraq War and President George Bush that was praised by most critics.[13]
He has been a vocal advocate for gay rights and the repeal of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell—and reform of the military’s sexual assault policies.
Enough said.
Crap I read your response wrong. Those damned special characters get in the way.
I thought you typed non political.
Still, thanks for the link which answered my questions
Then why doesn't he? The answer is simple: it's not about the veterans, it's all about the Donald.
Have you ever noticed that anytime he wants to draw attention away from something else and back to him, he either proposes or actually sets up something "for the veterans". So how many fundraisers did Trump do for wounded veterans BEFORE he ran for president? How much has he raised for them without HIM being the center of attention?
“Sorry you donât like it, but this is a decent veteransâ group THAT IS NON-POLITICAL & NOT INTERESTED IN âPOLITICAL STUNTSâ. That seems hard for some folks to understand.
For those wishing to support this NON-POLITICAL Veterans Organization:”
You hate Trump. Who the h*ll is going to listen to you? Only suckers and fools.
I don’t get it. Declining something not even offered? Another organization trying to get free press off of Trump. Just like Cruz tries to do. Sad.
