A Delorean is at least 10x more likely to catch fire.
The only reported Volt fire was a totaled car that was in a salvage yard for weeks.

I’d ask if Flux capacitors are going to be an option, but someone has probably beaten me to it.

The painted examples make it more apparent just how close the design was to the Renault Alpine of that period (I think the one that looked most like the DeLorean never made it to the U.S. market).
I had an opportunity to drive one once, without any foreknowledge of what to expect. It was really awful. If this gentleman is really going to assemble and sell 300 more copies, he should seriously consider coming up with an engine swap that puts some life in the car. An electric power steering system might be a good idea, too.

joke was john delorean, after getting busted, could make the cars and the license plates.

Good one. That’s vertical integration. Or is it horizontal?

The painted examples make it more apparent just how close the design was to the Renault Alpine of that period not really, except the general 70s coupe styling. And the Renault, although an older design is more "modern" in appearance, with a snarly aggressiveness the flattish DeLorean lacks.

In terms of powertrain parts, the Alpine and DeLorean are cousins. Of course, the DeLorean coach work was unique. John DeLorean owned a ‘79 Alpine, so the similarities (and component sources) are not coincidental.

If you’ve ever owned a renault you wouldn’t be asking that question.

Ah ok. So it wasn’t illegal or anything, it was just a pain in the ass and too expensive to be worth making them.
