The painted examples make it more apparent just how close the design was to the Renault Alpine of that period not really, except the general 70s coupe styling. And the Renault, although an older design is more "modern" in appearance, with a snarly aggressiveness the flattish DeLorean lacks.

In terms of powertrain parts, the Alpine and DeLorean are cousins. Of course, the DeLorean coach work was unique. John DeLorean owned a ‘79 Alpine, so the similarities (and component sources) are not coincidental.
