HUMBLE, Texas -
The DeLorean is going back to the future and into production.
We first saw the iconic time machine three decades ago in the movie, "Back to the Future", but the last time a real DeLorean was built was about 35 years ago. Soon that will change at the DeLorean Motor Company in Humble, Texas.
"It's fantastic. It is a game-changer for us. We've been wanting this to happen," DeLorean CEO Stephen Wynne said. "That was a green light to go back into production. That was prohibited. It was against the law to do it."
Wynne brought the DeLorean Motor Company to the Houston area in 1987. For the first time, the DeLorean will be manufactured on American soil.
Wynne said the company will build replica 1982 DeLoreans under a low-volume manufacturing bill approved by the federal government. He estimates he has enough supplies in stock to build about 300 cars. He hopes to go from building one a month to one a week.
I’ll wait until I have some spare cash.................got my power ball tickets!.............
I did an internet search and found some nice painted ones and some bizarre ones.
The new law excludes small production cars (<325 per year) from NHTSA rules and regs..................
A Delorean is at least 10x more likely to catch fire.
The only reported Volt fire was a totaled car that was in a salvage yard for weeks.
Bizzare?..............
Dayum!
The chief problem with stainless was that if someone hit you, you had to replace the panel. Paint covers Bondo...
I’d ask if Flux capacitors are going to be an option, but someone has probably beaten me to it.
Yes, they are optional, but there’s a waiting list................
I had an opportunity to drive one once, without any foreknowledge of what to expect. It was really awful. If this gentleman is really going to assemble and sell 300 more copies, he should seriously consider coming up with an engine swap that puts some life in the car. An electric power steering system might be a good idea, too.
joke was john delorean, after getting busted, could make the cars and the license plates.
Good one. That’s vertical integration. Or is it horizontal?
not really, except the general 70s coupe styling. And the Renault, although an older design is more "modern" in appearance, with a snarly aggressiveness the flattish DeLorean lacks.
In terms of powertrain parts, the Alpine and DeLorean are cousins. Of course, the DeLorean coach work was unique. John DeLorean owned a ‘79 Alpine, so the similarities (and component sources) are not coincidental.
“But, what does the the Volt do upon reaching 88 mph!”
Then it really smokes, period!
If you’ve ever owned a renault you wouldn’t be asking that question.

It is like back to the future again.
Reminds me of a song.,..
How bizarre...................
Ah ok. So it wasn’t illegal or anything, it was just a pain in the ass and too expensive to be worth making them.
