HUMBLE, Texas -
The DeLorean is going back to the future and into production.
We first saw the iconic time machine three decades ago in the movie, "Back to the Future", but the last time a real DeLorean was built was about 35 years ago. Soon that will change at the DeLorean Motor Company in Humble, Texas.
"It's fantastic. It is a game-changer for us. We've been wanting this to happen," DeLorean CEO Stephen Wynne said. "That was a green light to go back into production. That was prohibited. It was against the law to do it."
Wynne brought the DeLorean Motor Company to the Houston area in 1987. For the first time, the DeLorean will be manufactured on American soil.
Wynne said the company will build replica 1982 DeLoreans under a low-volume manufacturing bill approved by the federal government. He estimates he has enough supplies in stock to build about 300 cars. He hopes to go from building one a month to one a week.
People will pay the high price.
It won't be worth it.
But I hear that the doors will still come with some South American components . . . .
That was stainless steel sheet in the original ones.
Yeah, really.
Zackly. Mechanically horrible car.
Too much for one post but you can read it here:

Sorry, I see it was a tarnished stainless steel exterior.
I bet the flux capacitor is optional.
What’s not to love about Renault powertrains?
Thank you! That all makes sense now!
for later
It was stainless steel body........................
True, they aren’t ugly but the builder should offer some color choices other than grey stainless steel.
There was one here in nearby Pensacola that the owner had painted red. Looked ‘odd and out of place’........................People expect stainless steel.......................
At a production rate of 325 vehicles per year ans stated in the new law, the rarity of it will make it worth it to those who have that kind of dough......................
They should update. Carbon fiber?
Bigger/better engins.
cup holders.
But the Delorean can travel thru time and get to the finish line BEFORE the Volt even revs its engine!....................
Cool!
A lot depends on how much money this company has. All this stuff is expensive to redesign and build and 300 vehicle per year limit under the new law does not give you much volume to spread the costs over.
